The Government of Greenland is seeking a principal for GUX Qaqortoq. We are looking for an inclusive leader who can develop and motivate students and staff. You should be administratively skilled and able to manage responsibilities strategically, administratively, and pedagogically. Experience in leadership and personnel administration is an advantage.
Principal sought for GUX Qaqortoq with immediate start Following the departure of the previous principal, the time has now come to find a new principal for GUX in Qaqortoq.
We are therefore looking for a proper and inclusive leader who is passionate about developing and motivating both students and staff, and who possesses resilience and the ability to keep a cool head when challenges and situations arise that require action, thoroughness, and overview.
We are looking for a leader who can continue the work of creating a strong and well-functioning high school, and who dares to take the lead in implementing the development initiatives that can help strengthen the upper secondary education for young people in Greenland in the future. Therefore, our future leader must be administratively skilled and able to manage the responsibilities that come with it, both strategically and administratively as well as pedagogically.
We are therefore seeking a leader who strives to develop both short-term and long-term goals in collaboration with a versatile and passionate group of teachers with a high professional level. Professional and pedagogical development and collective actions on challenges are highly prioritized and must remain a continuous part of the school's backbone in the future, not least because the school is an active part of the national development work to strengthen the GUX education, where changes, challenges, and opportunities are part of the development process and daily life.

To develop a good working environment, ensure well-being, and retain students and staff.

To create a good framework for the ongoing development of teaching and students' learning.

To manage and ensure the operation of the school and colleges, including budget management and financial management.

To ensure and actively participate in the implementation of new initiatives and legislation.

To actively participate in the collaboration with the other rectors and the Department of Education.
At the same time, you should also have a flair for politics – you will be leading a politically governed organization, where the attention on your area will steadily increase in the coming years, and you must therefore be ready to advise the Naalakkersuisut regarding questions posed by it.

We are therefore looking for a candidate for the position of rector who can meet the following qualifications: Has experience in management and personnel administration, preferably with a relevant leadership education (this is not a requirement) and who can envision themselves in a systemic leadership style – insight and experience from the upper secondary education sector is a clear advantage.

Has strong administrative and financial skills - our principals must be well-versed in finance and budgeting.

Are able to act in a changing and complex everyday life with controlled pulse and overview, and set clear frameworks for development at the school.

Has strong strategic abilities and is able to translate visions into goals and results.

Is visible, robust, and clear in the management of independent, professionally specialized educators, and can create direction, engagement, and followership among employees.

Is able to engage broadly and set ambitious, realistic, and qualified goals, follow up on goals, and ensure progress.

Is collaborative and can build strong relationships both internally and externally.

Has a strong communicative and strategic sense that can help ensure decisions are anchored in the organization.

Very much likes to speak and understand Greenlandic, Danish, and English.

Has the will and ambition to create the best possible results and opportunities for as many young people as possible.

Has relevant academic education and teaching competence in at least one subject at the upper secondary level.
It is a big responsibility you have to take on, but in return, you get a job where no two days are the same, and where you contribute to making a huge impact on the education sector. Your daily life will be characterized by juggling many diverse tasks that you need to help catch. There will be demands ranging from the Department and the political committee at one end to professional and personnel-related issues at the other end.
Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation travel and moving of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement for managers employed under the Government of Greenland. The position is currently scheduled in salary bracket 36.
Employment will primarily be based on collective agreement terms; however, if the applicant is already a civil servant under the civil servant laws for the public Greenland, employment may occur under civil servant terms.
For the position, there is no maximum length of service established, and the provisions regarding compensation for overtime and the provisions regarding compensation for lost days off do not apply. The working hours are initially 40 hours per week.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
