Head of Department for Early Childhood Services – help strengthen the future of early childhood services in the Municipality of Sermersooq

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a development-oriented Head of Department for the Daycare Services Department.

The daycare sector in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq is in the midst of an important development. We are looking for a department head who can create direction, strengthen leadership, and develop a daycare sector focused on quality, sustainability, and attractive workplaces. You will be a central leader with significant influence on the development of the area's institutions and the frameworks that children, families, and employees encounter every day.

The daycare sector is an area with dedicated leaders and employees, as well as significant development potential. Like other municipalities, we are experiencing that the recruitment and retention of qualified staff impose new demands on our way of organizing, supporting, and developing the area. Therefore, you will play a central role in strengthening the framework for leadership, ensuring sustainable solutions, and creating the best conditions for high professional quality in our daycare services.

A managerial role with real influence

As Head of Early Childhood Education, you will be a central strategic leader in the Administration for Children and Schools, as well as part of the management in an area with high ambitions and a strong political focus. Collaboration, development, and shared responsibility are the foundation of our work. Together with skilled institution leaders, employees, and partners, you will create the framework for an organization that can both handle everyday tasks and simultaneously develop with an eye on future needs. You will report directly to the director.

About the position

The Administration for Children and Schools consists of the following departments: School, MISI & department for support persons for children and young people, Daycare, Leisure & Culture, Development, Health Promotion & Prevention, and the Staff.

The municipality's daycare offerings include both childminding, childminding schemes, nurseries, kindergartens, and integrated childcare institutions. There is a focus on ensuring that the municipality's childcare institutions can accommodate all children and create the best possible conditions for development and well-being. All employees in the daycare sector in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq work daily with children's well-being, development, and learning by having "the child at the center" of all decisions.

There are a total of 23 daycare institutions in cities and 8 daycare facilities in villages in the municipality.

The position is full-time and is located in Nuuk.

Your most important tasks

is to create an overview and prioritize efforts and, together with leaders and employees, develop solutions that strengthen both operations and long-term development, as well as:

·To work strategically while maintaining focus on operations

Develop a more sustainable organizational and management structure

Develop a culture characterized by interdisciplinarity, learning, and shared responsibility.

·Ensure recruitment, retention, and competency development

Financial management and capacity planning

Support the director in bridging the gap between the political leadership and the professional organization.

·Political servicing and case presentation

Development of quality and implementation of legislation

Your profile

·Has a relevant educational background as a pedagogue, teacher, or equivalent – preferably supplemented with further education or advanced studies within the field, administration, or management.

·Has experience in managing complex welfare areas, preferably from a politically governed organization.

A strategic leader with the ability to translate political decisions into practice.

·Focuses on employee well-being, competence development, and followership

·Has experience and understanding of change management and organizational development

Has strong abilities to create cross-sector collaboration across departments and sectors.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.

Housing:

A staff housing option can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc., will be paid according to the applicable rules for rent payments in the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality's properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon taking up the position, employees with the right to temporary housing will be offered a temporary accommodation, for which rent, utilities, etc., will be paid in accordance with the above. The start date depends on when a staff housing is available. A relocation travel allowance and moving expenses for household goods are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
