The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a dedicated and proactive special consultant/project manager to lead the development and implementation of The Polar Academy Greenland and Mountain Leader in Tasiilaq. About the projects:
The Polar Academy Greenland is a groundbreaking development project that works to strengthen young people's mental, social, and physical well-being through outdoor life, expeditions, and strong communities. The project is based on experiences from The Polar Academy in Scotland and is being developed in close collaboration with local and international partners. Mountain Leader supports the development of local outdoor skills and trains future tour leaders with a focus on safety, understanding of nature, leadership, and sustainable development.
About the position:
As a special consultant, you will be the central driving force behind both projects. You will be responsible for the daily coordination, strategic development, and practical implementation of activities, teaching, and expeditions. The position combines project management, administration, teaching, outdoor life, and relationship work. You will be part of the Culture and Leisure Department in Tasiilaq and work closely with local actors, volunteers, and international partners.
Your primary tasks:

Plan, coordinate, and further develop The Polar Academy Greenland and Mountain Leader.

Ensure high quality in the daily operations and long-term development of the projects.

Plan and conduct outdoor programs, expeditions, and teaching.

Develop activity plans, annual wheels, timelines, and coordinate resources.

Ensure high security through procedures, risk assessments, and emergency plans.

Contribute to budget follow-up, documentation, and evaluation.

Develop teaching materials and pedagogical methods
-
Collaboration with local, national, and international partners

Contribute to competence development and quality assurance in the projects.
We are looking for you who:

Has relevant higher education or equivalent experience in outdoor life, outdoor education, pedagogy, sports, or project management.

Has experience in planning and conducting trips and learning processes in nature.

Has strong competencies in security and risk management.

Has experience with teaching and relationship work – preferably with young people.

Works in a structured manner and takes responsibility

Thrives on collaboration across cultures and disciplines.

Can combine strategic overview with a practical and visible role.

Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

The position is a full-time position with organizational placement in the Culture and Leisure Department, Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Variable working hours, evening and weekend work, as well as travel activity, should be expected. Housing can be provided according to applicable regulations.
Criminal and Child Certificate:
The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record and child certificate. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal record and child certificate. Therefore, we must point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal record from the Police.
The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
Housing:
A staff housing can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the applicable rules for rent payment in the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality's properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary rental housing, for which rent, utilities, etc. will be paid in accordance with the above. The start date is dependent on when a staff housing is available. A relocation travel allowance and moving expenses for household goods are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
