Supervisor for Foster Parents

The Social Authority is seeking a supervisor to provide supervision to municipal foster families. Tasks include individual and group supervision, advice on conflict management, and the development of teaching materials. The position requires experience in supervision and knowledge of social legislation and the placement area.

The Social Authority is seeking a supervisor for foster parents. Foster parents undertake a significant and important task to ensure that children and young people placed outside their homes receive the best possible care and support. This can sometimes be a challenging task, and foster parents may need to discuss the situation and talk about how they can manage the caregiving responsibilities. To prevent breakdowns early in the placement and to ensure that foster families and children have the best conditions for a successful placement, we are looking for a supervisor who will provide supervision to municipal foster families.

About the position

You will become part of the Social Authority's Foster Family Team, which consists of 5 consultants who, among other things, conduct basic courses for new foster parents and qualification courses for municipal foster families, as well as support municipal foster family consultants with advice, guidance, and supervision, as well as conducting case management courses.

  • As a supervisor, your primary tasks will consist of: Providing individual and group supervision to foster families.
  • Coordinate the supervision offerings.
  • Provide advice and guidance to foster families on how to handle the child's and young person's behavior or issues, such as reactions related to contact with biological parents, outwardly aggressive behavior, grief, or trauma.
  • Provide supervision on how foster families can work with the child's/young person's action plan in collaboration with the placing municipality.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and support to foster families regarding conflict management.
  • Develop teaching materials for group supervision and conduct group supervision.

  • Provide support to municipal foster care consultants or municipal supervisors who conduct supervision for foster families.
  • Ad-hoc tasks.

About you

It would be ideal if you have extensive experience in providing supervision and group supervision to individuals working with children and young people, and thus can offer foster parents advice and guidance on how to best help a child thrive, as well as supervision and counseling regarding thoughts and feelings related to the caregiving task.

You have a holistic approach to the individual and can provide competent guidance and advice on, for example, care, setting boundaries, and collaboration, as well as how to handle difficult situations with a child or a young person.

  • We expect that you: Have a relevant education in the social field, e.g. as an educator, social worker, psychologist, or similar.
  • Has a relevant further education in supervision, preferably within a solution-focused and mentalization-based approach.
  • Has knowledge of social legislation.

  • Has extensive professional knowledge about vulnerable children and young people and their reactions.
  • Has knowledge of the foster family area and preferably experience as a family foster consultant.
  • Is an engaged person with strong collaboration skills, who can also work independently and loyally based on shared values and guidelines.
  • Is good at creating an overview in a busy everyday life and can work systematically and act in acute situations.
  • Is open about your own work tasks and is proactive in seeking support and learning.
  • Has good communication skills.
  • Is flexible.
  • Is bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish.
