About Domestic Affairs

The Ministry of the Interior is responsible for:

  • Legislation: Municipal administration and municipal division
  • Citizen councils outside the municipal division
  • Elections to the Inatsisartut
  • Elections to municipal councils, village councils, and parish representations
  • Registration
  • Expropriation
  • Advisory and supervision: Governance relations and committee structure
  • Capacity issues
  • Remuneration and pension for mayors and municipal council members
  • Rules on civil representation
  • Election: Securing electoral actions for the elections to the Inatsisartut and the citizens' council in Pituffik
  • Operation and development of valg.gl
  • Secretariat services: The Supervisory Board
  • The Electoral Committee
  • The Eligibility Board
  • The Political Coordination Group
  • Expropriation Committee
  • Follow-up group for smaller residences
  • Steering Committee for the efforts following the disaster in the Uummannaq area

About the position

  • Your primary tasks will be: Preparation and revision of laws and regulations.
  • Legal quality assurance of legislative proposals
  • Administrative law advice
  • Advising municipalities on governance and eligibility issues
  • Secretariat support for boards and committees
  • Preparation of legal notes and political proposals
  • Legal support for election preparations

About you

  • We are looking for a lawyer who: Is a Master of Laws or has another relevant legal education.
  • Has solid knowledge of administrative law
  • Has an interest in municipal law and electoral legislation
  • Works in a structured and analytical manner
  • Expresses oneself clearly and precisely in writing
  • Thrives with responsibility and complex legal assessments

It is an advantage if you have experience with legislative preparatory work, political servicing, and knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions. Bilingualism is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Criminal record and child certificate

The department reserves the right to obtain criminal and child certificates. We therefore wish to point out that the employment can only take effect after the department has received a satisfactory child certificate from the National Police as well as a criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the department with written consent from the individual, while the criminal record must be obtained by the individual themselves through the police.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving and relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment with the Self-Government, the right to the assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
