AC Executive/Special Consultant: Lawyer for Ilisimatusarfik Research Office

The Government of Greenland is seeking an AC Executive/Special Consultant lawyer for the Ilisimatusarfik Research Office. The position requires expertise in contract law, data protection, and international cooperation agreements. We are looking for an AC officer/special consultant lawyer who can strengthen our research office with expertise in contract law, data protection, and international cooperation agreements.

The position is desired to be filled on March 1, 2026, or by further agreement. The working hours are 40 hours per week.

Ilisimatusarfik is expanding its research office in these years, which will support researchers throughout the entire process of their research projects. From advising, fundraising, and budgeting to project descriptions and reporting. The research office works as a collaborative team, where each employee has their own main areas but also helps each other across the board.

As a lawyer at the research office, you will become a key person in the work of negotiating, drafting, and ensuring the quality of legally binding agreements. You will play a central role in building the processes that will ensure that researchers have the best legal frameworks, both in national and international collaborations. You will also gain close insight into key research areas in Greenland, including the work on the Historical Investigation.

We are primarily looking for an experienced lawyer with a good knowledge of collaboration and data processing agreements. However, we also welcome applications from newly graduated legal candidates, to whom we can offer relevant training through external professional assistance.

The Research Office consists of two employees and is part of the technical-administrative unit Common Administration at Ilisimatusarfik, which has a total of 37 employees.

About the position

  • As the legal advisor for the research office, you will be a key person for all legal aspects of research projects. You will advise researchers and management, draft and ensure the quality of agreements regarding collaboration, grant funding, data security, and personal data. You will play a central role in building processes that ensure compliance and support research. The perfect candidate: Holds a Master of Laws (cand.jur.).
  • Is an independent lawyer who can identify areas for development.
  • Has experience with both Greenlandic and Danish legislation regarding data sharing and personal data.
  • Has the skills to prepare and ensure the quality of various types of collaboration agreements, such as: Contract law
  • Cooperation agreements
  • Data processing agreements
  • Redemption
  • Buyout agreements for external researchers
  • Subcontractor agreements

  • Can provide legal advice regarding external communication.
  • Can prepare documents for use in research projects, e.g., regarding informed consent.
  • Can speak Greenlandic, Danish, and English – but it is not a requirement.

About the Joint Administration

The Joint Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik and Ilinniarfissuaq. The departments work closely with the academic units, but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration include: study administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and the Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving and relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the assigned housing is retained. The housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
