The Administration for Family under Avannataata Municipality is seeking a Department Head for the operational area in Ilulissat, starting on March 1, 2026, or by further agreement.
The position of Department Head for the operations area is physically located in the Family Department in Ilulissat and reports directly to the Head of Families and Children.
The area of responsibility concerns: Adults with disabilities, residential institutions for the elderly, as well as services for citizens in the social sector during the daytime, including day centers for people with disabilities, day centers for the elderly, shelters for the homeless, and the home care team, as well as Majoriaq, among others.
The position involves close collaboration with the other two department heads in the Family area and the Benefits area in Ilulissat, who have the following areas of responsibility: the Family area, the disability area, and the Benefits area.
Your responsibilities in relation to your closest employees will include the following:
·Responsible leaders in housing collectives, home care services, nursing homes, and activity centers, including responsibility for finances and supervision.
Case management in the Family Department, reviewing legal tasks and ensuring that they are handled correctly and appropriately.
·Must ensure that requests from the Department of Family, notifications and information, including minutes, new rates with accompanying guidelines, justifications and instructions, as well as workflows and supervision, are handled correctly.
·Monitor that the departments adhere to their budgets.
Ensure that communication with external partners, particularly with the Social Appeals Board, is continuously discussed between the middle management group and the caseworkers.
The responsible department heads and caseworkers receive ongoing developmental offers and ensure a high level of job satisfaction, conduct performance reviews, and guide them to participate in courses.
·Develop crisis preparedness in the departments
Professional qualifications:
·Can work independently, coordinate, delegate tasks, follow up, and escalate cases in the system.

Since many of your tasks involve finance and accounting, it is important that you have knowledge and experience in this area.
·Are you a trained social worker or similar – it would be a plus if you have participated in courses related to economics and law within the social field (or if you are willing to participate in such courses)
You have knowledge of the social sector and work with families, especially regarding oversight of the financial and legal aspects of the area.
·You are experienced in the municipal administrations, including financial management, or you have the willingness to learn it.
You have experience in administrative management, or you are eager to learn it.

Salary and employment conditions:
Employment is based on an agreement between the Government of Greenland and the applicant's negotiating organization.
The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record. Once the applicant has given consent, such a record will be requested from the National Police.
Housing can be allocated for which rent, deposit, etc. is paid according to the applicable rules at any given time.
