The Government of Greenland is seeking a personnel lawyer for a fixed-term position of 12 months. The role involves advising and guiding on employment law issues as well as negotiating and interpreting collective agreements. We are looking for a candidate with a legal background and an interest in labor law, who can work independently and has strong communication skills.

We have a temporary position as a personnel lawyer, where you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of tasks within both individual and collective employment law. For the right experienced candidate, there will be the possibility of employment as a special consultant/chief consultant.
About the position
Personnel & Law is an office in the Agency for Economy and Personnel, where we advise and guide leaders in the central administration, subordinate units, and the Greenlandic healthcare system on personnel-related issues. In addition, we help maintain, interpret, and renew the existing collective agreements on behalf of the Self-Government and the Greenlandic municipalities.

Your main tasks as a personnel lawyer Drafting of party hearings and decisions regarding written warnings, dismissals, and expulsions

Negotiation and advice on supplements

General advice and guidance for managers on employment law matters.

Advising and interpreting collective agreements, civil service legislation, as well as other laws, regulations, and circulars within the employment law area.

Conducting mediation meetings, among other things, in connection with disciplinary cases, termination agreements, and disputes.

Preparation of employment law letters as well as guidelines and the drafting of policies in the area.

Training of employees and managers in the Greenland Self-Government in basic employment law as well as ad hoc presentations on employment law and collective agreements.
Adjustments to tasks can be agreed upon as needed, based on interest, competence, and development wishes in collaboration with the other legal staff in the team. For example, the right candidate may be involved in negotiations for the renewal of agreements and collective agreements on behalf of the public Greenland, handling arbitration and court cases in collaboration with the agency's lawyer, etc.

You have/are: Cand. jur./Cand.merc.jur or another relevant legal background, and have an interest in labor law.

Good at collaborating, sparring, and sharing your knowledge with colleagues.

Not afraid to take on a challenge and see it through to the end.

Good oral and written communication skills at a high level.

It is an advantage if you have good numerical understanding and understanding of legal/economic risks.

It is an advantage if you have knowledge of Greenlandic societal conditions and culture, and it will be a clear benefit if you can speak the Greenlandic language.

About us
Personnel & Law is an office that currently consists of 13 personnel consultants, 3 personnel lawyers, and two office managers. The department is organizationally placed within the Agency for Economy and Personnel, which is under the Ministry of Finance and Taxes, and thus is part of the administration of Naalakkersuisut.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon the termination of the employment relationship.
