The Department of Health and Persons with Disabilities is seeking a strategically strong and professionally well-founded department head to lead the department for law and the disability area. The position is central to the development of policy, legislation, and professional direction in an area of great societal importance.
About the position
The department is newly established but consists of experienced employees with in-depth knowledge in both the health law field and disability counseling and case management. Therefore, you will become part of a professionally strong environment, where there are also good opportunities for training in the department's work and areas of responsibility.
As department head, you will have overall responsibility for both the professional and personnel management of the department. You will be a key person in the political service of the Minister for Health and Persons with Disabilities and in advising the permanent secretary. The role requires broad legal insight, political understanding, and the ability to drive progress in complex tasks.
The work is diverse and includes, among other things:

Management of the department's employees and prioritization of tasks.

Legal advice in the health and disability sector.

Political servicing, including the preparation of responses to § 37 questions, speeches, presentations, and reports.

Participation in the preparation and revision of legislation.

Participation in strategy and coordination tasks in the disability area.

Collaboration across departments, agencies, and external actors.
Your qualifications
We are looking for a leader with strong legal skills and solid experience from a politically governed organization. You have:

A legal master's degree.

Documented management experience.

Ability to navigate safely in political processes.

Strong collaboration skills and experience with cross-functional problem solving.

Overview, decisiveness, and the ability to create structure in complex areas of casework.

A central leadership position with significant influence on the development of the health and disability sector in Greenland.

Employment conditions
The position is currently classified as equivalent to 38. The salary with fixed salary components and personal contributions to pension in LR 38 amounts to DKK 64,048 monthly and DKK 768,576 annually as of April 1, 2026.
Employment will primarily be on collective agreement terms; however, if the applicant is already a civil servant under the civil service laws for the public Greenland, employment may occur on civil servant terms.
For the position, it applies that no maximum length of service has been established and that the provisions regarding compensation for overtime and the provisions regarding compensation for lost days off do not apply; the working hours are initially 40 hours per week.
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, in accordance with the collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
