Caseworker for Children and Youth, as well as Family Affairs

Avannaata Municipality in Upernavik is seeking 1 Caseworker for Children and Youth, as well as families in the family department, to be filled on April 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

You will join a team with other caseworkers in the children and youth family area and in public assistance areas in the social departments. The immediate supervisor of the caseworker is the Department Head of the Family Department.

Work and areas of responsibility:

Active supervision of the conditions children live under in the municipality as well as processing reports regarding cases where there may be a need for assistance.

·Receive inquiries, conduct conversations, and provide advice regarding children and young people and their families.

Assessment of support measures in the child welfare area in accordance with current legislation – including the allocation of support measures.

·Exercise supervision and case management of children placed in residential institutions or boarding school stays outside the municipality, and maintain contact with parents and other relatives of the placed children.

·Prepare recommendations for team meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, and applications to the Social Committee, and handle cases in accordance with the recommendations made at the interdisciplinary cooperation committee meeting and in accordance with the decisions made by the Social Committee.

·Is a sparring partner for employees in local branches regarding issues related to children and young people as well as the family area.

As far as possible, substitute for other employees in the children and youth as well as family area based on the needs in the department.

Participates in the local social duty scheme.

·Perform ad hoc tasks.

Qualifications:

·Social worker education or similar education.

Has the will and interest to take professional courses and relevant further education programs.

Experience with case management in the child welfare area.

Is good at collaborating with colleagues and with management.

Is good at complying with the organization's and management's provisions in accordance with providing work and collaboration efforts as a caseworker in the Social Administration.

·Has experience in establishing good collaboration with external partners, both in the form of team meetings or during interdisciplinary or cross-sectoral meetings.

·Is a role model, good at client contact and communication.

Is psychologically resilient and good at handling conflicts.

Is systematic, reliable, loyal, and responsible.

·Is stable and careful.

The goal for the position in the short term is to contribute to better quality of case processing, including investigations and the selection of appropriate support measures in accordance with children and young people as well as the family area.

The long-term goal is to contribute to the reduction of particularly severe cases of neglect of children and young people, psychological and physical violence, including sexual abuse, as well as to strengthen parents' parenting abilities.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions will be in accordance with the applicable collective agreement with the currently authorized negotiating trade union.

Accommodation may be provided for the position - if the applicant has housing and lives in Upernavik, no official housing will be allocated; external applicants may have the opportunity to be assigned housing.
