Foster Care Consultant

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a skilled and dedicated Foster Care Consultant for Tasiilaq. Responsibilities include the approval of foster families, social and educational counseling, and case management. The position is full-time with 40 weekly working hours. We are looking for an experienced candidate with a degree in social work, education, or social counseling.

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a skilled and dedicated Foster Family Consultant for Tasiilaq, with a degree in social work, pedagogy, or social counseling, to start on May 1, 2026.

The primary tasks of the foster family consultant are; recommendations for the approval of foster families, case processing for foster families, social and pedagogical counseling for foster families, as well as ensuring that the work is conducted in accordance with applicable legislation. The immediate supervisor will be the head of the Department for Children and Families.

There are 3 standardized foster family consultant positions in Tasiilaq.

Ml Tasiilaq has reorganized and decided that all areas of intervention will be gathered in a single department. When all positions are filled, the department will consist of: employees distributed as follows: 1 department leader, 1 treatment leader, 2 psychotherapists, 1 consultant for the children's house with a coordinating function on children's house cases, 7 family counselors — of which 1 has a coordinating function, 4 youth advisors — of which 1 has a coordinating function, and 3 foster family consultants.

The position is a full-time role with 40 weekly working hours from Monday to Friday and reports to the department head in the area of intervention.

The content of the position:

We are looking for a — preferably experienced — foster family consultant to join the foster family team and handle a number of tasks including:

Actively seeking foster families in Tasiilaq and the surrounding villages.

AI case processing in connection with the approval of foster families

·AI case processing related to foster families, including reporting of foster care allowances and similar matters.

·Course/upskilling, guidance and counseling of foster families, both social and pedagogical

Supervision of foster families

In collaboration with the authority department, ensure that children and young people are placed in the right places.

· in collaboration with the authority department work on return cases

·Actively participate in the development of the foster care sector

·Ad hoc tasks regarding children in foster care

The tasks are carried out in close collaboration with other employees in the foster family team in the Municipality of Sermersooq as well as the authority department in the form of caseworkers for children and families.

Expectations for applicants:

·Has an education as a social worker, educator, or advisor in social work

·Is good at reading and interpreting legislation

·Has good written and verbal communication skills

·Has the desire and ability to collaborate with relevant parties with foster care as the focal point.

·Has the ability to work loyally within the framework of the adopted administrative basis.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the national police and the criminal record from the police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
