Social Worker/Case Handler

Social Worker/Case Handler sought for the Assistance Department in Maniitsoq. The position involves processing applications for early retirement and public assistance, advising citizens, and participating in Pension Committee meetings. Are you passionate about ensuring good case management in the public assistance sector in the Maniitsoq district? Do you want to be part of a dedicated team in the Assistance Department? The Welfare area in Maniitsoq is looking for a social worker, case handler to be employed from June 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

About the position:

This position is located in an area that is under development, especially due to new legislation and a new IT case management system. Here, there is a focus on quality and efficiency in citizen services in collaboration with external and internal partners. Work tasks and areas of responsibility:

  • Participation in the counter function together with other caseworkers in the assistance area.
  • Processing of applications for early retirement, including resource profiles, medical certificates, and work capacity assessments.
  • Participation in the Pension Committee's meetings
  • Guidance for citizens on financial challenges and improving opportunities for work or education
  • Preparation of individual action plans in collaboration with the applicant
  • Regular follow-up and reassessment of action plans
  • Processing of applications for public assistance, including ensuring correct payment.
  • Monitoring and control of recipients of public assistance to ensure they comply with their obligations.
  • Decisions regarding the administration of public assistance
  • Operation of IT system for case processing in the area (GetOrganized)
  • Handling of complaint cases in the area of public assistance
  • Advice to staff in municipal branches in rural areas regarding case processing
  • Handling of case processing in the pension area during sick leave and vacation
  • Handling of other incidental tasks in case of urgent need

Expectations of you:

  • Knowledge of legislation in the social area, especially public assistance.
  • Experience in case processing.
  • Experience with internal and external meetings.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare decisions and other documents
  • Independence and responsibility in the work.

Professional qualifications:

  • Educated social worker or other relevant education in the social field.
  • Stable, quality-conscious, and detail-oriented.
  • Positive and welcoming attitude.
  • Ability to work focused and prioritize in a hectic everyday life.
  • Clear and concise communication, both written and verbal.
  • Independence and responsibility in work.
  • Good at interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Bilingual (Greenlandic and Danish) applicants are preferred.

Criminal record and child certificate:

The position requires the procurement of a criminal record and a child certificate. Employment can only take place once the municipality has received the relevant certificates.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are agreed upon in accordance with the collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, AK, or another relevant organization. The employment includes a 3-month probation period. Housing is provided according to applicable rules, and free travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, is granted after at least 3 years of employment.
