GUX Nuuk is Greenland's largest high school and has about 500 students in 8 tracks for the three grades, taught by about 50 teachers and about 15 teaching assistants. Our students have very different academic and social conditions, but share a common dream of graduating.

Two colleges are associated with the high school, and the recruitment area extends from Tasiilaq in the east to Paamiut in the southwest, although the vast majority of students come from Nuuk. All students are required to have well-being conversations with a student coach or dormitory staff member several times throughout the school year.

As a department head, you will have overall responsibility for developing, coordinating, and ensuring the high school’s retention efforts - in close collaboration with the high school's principal and educational leaders. The department head will also have the academic and daily management of the high school's student coaches, psychotherapist, dormitory staff, and counselors. The group engages in a joint collaboration, focusing on students' well-being and retention, especially concerning those students who need special support in completing high school.

  • Daily management of student coaches, psychotherapist, and dormitory staff, including team meetings and sparring.
  • Close daily collaboration with the school's management, teachers, and other staff.
  • Conduct well-being conversations with a fixed group of the school's students, and possibly additional student conversations as needed.
  • Monitor the students' attendance and proactively respond to it, in collaboration with the school's principal, make decisions regarding the imposition of sanctions.
  • Further development of the high school's crisis preparedness

  • We expect: That you have a relevant social work education, such as a social worker.
  • That you have management experience or experience in coordinating employees.
  • That you are committed to close collaboration with the other employees and management, where we focus on taking concrete action on the daily challenges.
  • That you are flexible, structured, reliable, and adaptable.

  • That you are prepared to help students build resilience, social skills, and the ability to see themselves in interaction with others.
  • That you are prepared to work with students who may need pedagogical clarity, firm structures, and a safe adult to lean on.
  • That you are committed to ensuring that community, respect, shared responsibility, and professionalism are reflected in your dialogue with students and staff – and are part of GUX Nuuk's values.

  • We offer: A meaningful leadership position, where there is an opportunity to influence task development.
  • A high school where students and their well-being are at the center.
  • A high school in continuous development, where there is a focus on both the academic and general educational aspects.
  • A committed and professionally strong team of employees, where we work together to solve challenges.
