The Greenland Representation in Washington, D.C. is seeking a full-time administrative assistant/PA to handle the daily administrative tasks for our team consisting of two diplomats, a political advisor, and an intern.

The Greenland Representation opened in September 2014 and is co-located with the Danish embassy in Washington, D.C. The overall purpose and mandate is to promote Greenland's interests in the USA and Canada, strengthen relations in a number of areas, expand commercial interests in the North American market, and generally represent Greenland's interests in North America.

Primary tasks and areas of responsibility

The primary tasks will be to handle the daily administrative functions, including accounting in the office, as well as to support the team with various tasks related to daily operations, events, visits, meetings, and other ad hoc tasks.

Qualifications

We expect you to have experience with accounting and administrative tasks. You are service-minded and take pride in taking responsibility for various tasks. You are structured and good at planning and prioritizing your work. You easily familiarize yourself with rules and procedures and act accordingly. You have a positive attitude and are a team player.

The position involves collaboration with colleagues at the Danish Embassy as well as other diplomatic representations. Good English skills are required. Knowledge of kalaallisut (Greenlandic) and/or a Scandinavian language is an advantage, but not a requirement.

The position follows regular office hours. However, flexibility is required during busy periods, and work may occur outside of normal working hours, for example in connection with ministerial visits or other events.

  • Employment terms You are offered full-time employment for 3 years with the possibility of extension on a local contract based on the embassy's local personnel regulations.
  • The normal working hours are 37 hours per week.
  • You are entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year.
  • The salary is determined based on your qualifications, relevant experience, and documented work results.
  • You are offered a local health insurance, where the insurance premium is partially covered, and you pay 20% of the premium yourself.
  • Other terms and benefits will be determined in accordance with the embassy's personnel regulations.
  • The basic gross monthly salary for the position for a candidate with relevant qualifications and relevant work experience – for an employee who is taxable in the USA – is USD 4,236. For a tax-exempt employee (tax exemption depends on visa status and citizenship in the USA), the net monthly salary will be USD 3,515. The base salary may be adjusted if the candidate does not meet the necessary qualifications for the position. Depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience, an individual supplement may be provided.
