Officer for Child and Youth Services

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking an engaged officer for Child and Youth Services in the Department of Children and Schools. The position requires contact with citizens and involves the assessment of children for daycare and schools. The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for a skilled and dedicated officer for the Assessment within the child and youth area in the Department for Children and School to be employed on July 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

The Administration for Children and Schools manages the areas of Daycare, School, and MISI as well as Leisure and Culture, and has the mission to create the best possible framework for all children in the Municipality of Sermersooq, through which they can achieve learning, development, and well-being, so that they have the foundation to create a meaningful life. The assessment within the child and youth area is placed under the Department in the Children and School Administration. The department is staffed with 1 department head and 4 caseworkers. The department head will be the immediate supervisor of the caseworkers. The assessment within the child and youth area is responsible for, among other things, the assessment of children for daycare, AKO, SPO, FRO, and schools.

The department is constantly working to optimize and further develop the processes and workflows within the department, so that citizens and colleagues around the municipality can experience an easy and streamlined workflow. It is expected that our future colleague will participate in the work to make the department even better with the same commitment and positivity as the current employees.

The position requires contact with citizens, both by phone, email, and letter - in Greenlandic, Danish, and sometimes English. Inquiries and requests to the Visitation regarding the child and youth area that do not require case processing are handled by the municipality's Citizen Service.

The administration emphasizes a good working environment, positive behavior, positive communication, accountability, and collaboration.

Your tasks will primarily be:

Visiting children for daycare services in the Municipality of Sermersooq, including urgent applications.

School enrollment of guest students/newcomers as well as upcoming 1st graders

·Creation, updating, and revision of the waiting list for daycare services

·Admission and withdrawal from daycare services

Attendance and staffing plans for daycare institutions

·Provide service to parents of children on the waiting list and enrolled children in daycare centers.

Calculation and collection of fees as well as imposition, including changes to fees in connection with changes in income, etc.

·Other miscellaneous office work.

Qualifications/expectations:

·Has office education or equivalent

·Preferably experience with previous similar tasks

Ability to engage in constructive and positive dialogue with the target audience and colleagues.

·Has good communication and collaboration skills, including strong language competencies

Can handle many balls in the air without losing perspective.

Demonstrates flexibility in relation to tasks and ongoing adjustments in workload distribution.

Ability to work focused and structured in a hectic everyday life

·Is outgoing and welcoming

·Is stable, independent, and service-minded

Is bilingual in writing and speech and can handle "minor" interpreting tasks.

·Is able to develop your work area in terms of service and work tools

  • Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
