The Education Agency is seeking an engaged and holistic school principal for Ado Lyngep Atuarfia in Aasiaat, starting on September 1, 2026, or by agreement.

About Ado Lyngep Atuarfia

Ado Lyngep Atuarfia is a specialized boarding school for 16 children and young people with intellectual disabilities aged 14–20 from all over Greenland. The school functions both as a place of education and a home, and holds special significance for students who often come from far away and from very different local and cultural backgrounds.

The school's everyday life is based on safety, relationships, structure, and respect for each student's living conditions, language, and cultural background. With a total of 21 employees, the school works interdisciplinary and holistically to create coherence between teaching, care, and daily life skills.

About the position

As the school principal, you have the overall pedagogical, managerial, and administrative responsibility for Ado Lyngep Atuarfia. You are expected to be a present, visible, and appreciative leader who creates calm, direction, and meaning in a complex everyday life.

The position requires an understanding of Greenlandic cultural and societal conditions, respect for local cultures, and the ability to lead in a context where relationships, trust, and continuity are crucial – both for students, employees, parents, and partners across the country.

Your primary responsibilities

As a school principal, you must:

  • Lead and further develop the boarding school program through interdisciplinary and holistic collaboration between the school and the boarding department.
  • Ensure a structured, student-centered, and safe learning and development environment, tailored to the individual needs and prerequisites of the students.
  • Practice clear, appreciative, and dialogue-based leadership, based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding.
  • Build and maintain a strong and well-functioning management team.
  • Have responsibility for a safe, stable, and sustainable operation, both pedagogically, in terms of personnel, and organizationally.
  • Strengthen a close and respectful collaboration with parents, often across great geographical distances.
  • Ensure a constructive collaboration with the students' home municipalities, administrations, and other relevant partners.

Salary and employment conditions

Employment will be on collective agreement terms according to "The Agreement between the Government of Greenland and the Union of Teachers in Primary Schools, IMAK, for teachers in public schools." Where the applicant may already be a civil servant under the civil service laws for the public sector in Greenland, employment may occur on civil servant terms.

The position is currently salary-fixed corresponding to 36. The salary with fixed salary components and own contribution to pension in LR 36 amounts to DKK 51,463 monthly and DKK 617,559 annually as of April 1, 2024.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon the termination of the employment relationship.
