About Ado Lyngep Atuarfia

Ado Lyngep Atuarfia is a specialized boarding school for 16 children and young people with intellectual disabilities aged 14–20 from all over Greenland. The school serves both as a place of education and a home, and holds special significance for students who often come from far away and from very different local and cultural backgrounds.

The school's everyday life is based on safety, relationships, structure, and respect for each student's living conditions, language, and cultural background. With a total of 21 staff members, the school works interdisciplinary and holistically to create a connection between teaching, care, and daily life skills.

About the position

As the school principal, you have the overall pedagogical, managerial, and administrative responsibility for Ado Lyngep Atuarfia. You are expected to be a present, visible, and appreciative leader who creates calm, direction, and meaning in a complex everyday life.

The position requires an understanding of Greenlandic cultural and societal conditions, respect for local cultures, and the ability to lead in a context where relationships, trust, and continuity are crucial – both for students, employees, parents, and partners across the country.

Your primary areas of responsibility

As a school principal, you must:

  • Lead and further develop the boarding school program through interdisciplinary and holistic collaboration between the school and the boarding department.
  • Ensure a structured, student-centered, and safe learning and development environment, tailored to the individual needs and prerequisites of the students.
  • Practice clear, appreciative, and dialogue-based leadership, based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding.
  • Build and maintain a strong and well-functioning management team.
  • Have responsibility for a safe, stable, and sustainable operation, both pedagogically, in terms of personnel, and organizationally.
  • Strengthen a close and respectful collaboration with parents, often across large geographical distances.
  • Ensure a constructive collaboration with the students' home municipalities, administrations, and other relevant partners.
  • Has relevant special educational insight and experience
  • Has understanding of – and respect for – Greenlandic cultural and social conditions.
  • Is clear, empathetic, and responsible in your leadership.
  • Works purposefully for the students' well-being, development, and life skills.
  • Has strong relationship and communication skills and can build trust across disciplines and cultures.
  • Has a recognizing, inclusive, and development-oriented view of humanity.
  • Preferably has a leadership education, but this is not a requirement.
  • A meaningful and socially important leadership position in the Greenlandic education system.
  • Great independence and the opportunity to make a clear impact on the school's development.
  • A committed and dedicated staff group with high professionalism and strong practical foundation.
  • A workplace focused on community, collaboration, and mutual respect.
  • A positive and supportive work environment
  • The opportunity to make a real difference for some of Greenland's most vulnerable – and at the same time completely unique – children and young people.
