Head of MISI

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a skilled and committed Head of Department for MISI for the Administration of Children and Schools.

We are looking for an experienced and professionally strong leader who can take strategic responsibility for the operation and development of the advisory area (MISI) – and who is able to see the connections between the pedagogical, the organizational, and the human aspects.

About the position

The Administration for Children and Schools consists of five departments: School & MISI, Daycare, Leisure & Culture, Development, Health Promotion & Prevention, and the Staff.

The department head is located in the MISI Department, where you will report directly to the director of the administration.

The department is responsible for the advisory center MISI, which offers pedagogical-psychological counseling to professionals working with children and young people aged 0-18 years. MISI advises on issues related to children's development, well-being, and learning. MISI Sermersooq works every day to ensure well-being, development, and learning for children and young people in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq. This requires a counseling unit that is clear in its role, strong in its professionalism, and sustainable in its organization.

As Head of Department, you will have management responsibility for a strong team consisting of a deputy head, child/youth consultants, educational consultants, psychologists, speech/hearing educators, and office assistants.

The position is full-time and is located in Nuuk.

Your main tasks:

As the Head of Department, you will become a key person in the work of ensuring quality and development in MISI.

Your primary tasks will be to:

• Ensure that operations and task execution are carried out in accordance with applicable legislation.
• Advise and inform the political level on a solid professional basis.
• Initiate and anchor strategic development initiatives in close collaboration with the other professional areas of the administration.
• Lead the implementation of larger development projects in the consulting area.
• Create close collaborative relationships – Both internally within the organization and with external partners

Your profile:

We are looking for a leader who:

• Has a relevant educational background as a psychologist, teacher, educator, or similar – preferably supplemented with further education in pedagogy, administration, or management.
• Has documented management experience, preferably from a politically governed organization.
• Has solid insight into the legislation in the advisory field.
• Can balance professional quality, resource management, and well-being
• Works strategically, structured, and with a good overview.
• Has strong written and verbal communication skills
• Is a strong generalist with a desire to acquire new knowledge and translate it into action.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record and child certificate. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal record and child certificate. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
