Department Head for the Department of Technology and Supervision - Raw Materials Sector - Ministry of Business and Raw Materials Would you like to lead a professionally strong area with significant importance for the development of the raw materials sector in an Arctic environment? About the raw materials sector and the department

The raw materials area in the Department of Business and Raw Materials is organized into three professional divisions: the Licensing Division, the Division for Technology and Supervision, and the Geology Division. Together, the department and the divisions handle the overall strategic planning and regulatory tasks in the raw materials area, including the preparation of decision-making bases for political processes and the implementation of the decisions of Naalakkersuisut.

The Department of Technology and Supervision plays a central role in the raw materials sector as both the supervisory authority and as a player in establishing high Arctic standards. The department collaborates closely with national and international authorities as well as the industry. The department is staffed with a department head and 3-4 employees.

The work includes, among other things, regulatory processing and professional assessment of field activities, mine plans, and closure plans, as well as approval of specific mining activities. Additionally, it involves supervision in the field and on mining projects, focusing on ensuring that activities are carried out in accordance with legislation, permit conditions, and high standards for safety, environment, health, and sustainable resource management.

About the position

  • As the department head, you have the overall responsibility for the daily management of the Department of Technology and Supervision. Your primary tasks include, among other things: Daily management of the Department of Technology and Supervision, including organizing and prioritizing the department's tasks.
  • Preparation of work and activity plans
  • Professional sparring, quality assurance, and follow-up on case processing
  • Ensuring compliance with deadlines and regulatory requirements
  • Close collaboration with the department head and the other resource-related department heads.
  • Participation in strategic work, including the development and implementation of plans for the raw materials sector.
  • Collaboration and coordination with other authorities as well as dialogue with the industry and foreign mineral authorities.
  • In addition, you will be responsible for a number of development tasks, including: Development and implementation of Arctic standards for exploration, exploitation, and production.
  • Ongoing competence development of the department's employees

Qualifications

  • Can work in a development and project-oriented manner and is good at delegating responsibility.
  • Proficient in Danish and English – both orally and in writing.

You must be prepared for ongoing skills development and further education.

Travel activity

The position involves travel activities related to, among other things, supervision, continuing education, and participation in national and international conferences and fairs.

Employment terms

The position is currently salary-fixed corresponding to 38. The salary with fixed salary components and own contribution to pension in LR 38 amounts to DKK 64,048 monthly and DKK 768,576 annually as of April 1, 2026.

Employment will initially occur under collective agreement terms, where applicants who are already civil servants according to the civil service laws for the public Greenland may be employed under civil service terms.

For the position, it applies that no maximum length of service has been established and that the provisions regarding compensation for overtime and the provisions regarding compensation for lost days off do not apply; the working hours are initially 40 hours per week.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving and relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
