Vocational Teacher for the Department of Theology at Ilisimatusarfik

We are seeking a vocational teacher for teaching tasks at the Department of Theology at Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University. Professional teacher for the Department of Theology at Ilisimatusarfik We are seeking a professional teacher for teaching assignments at the Department of Theology at Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University. The position is desired to be filled by August 1, 2026, or by agreement.

The Department of Theology offers a 3-year bachelor's degree program with about 15 active bachelor's students and two full-time researchers/teachers. The department offers a 3-year bachelor's degree in theology.

At the department, teaching can take place in Greenlandic and Danish.

  • The department falls under the Institute for Culture, Language, and History, which includes three additional departments: Department of Cultural and Social History
  • Department of Language, Literature, and Media
  • Department of Translation and Interpretation

Qualification requirements

  • We expect that you have: Relevant university education at the bachelor's level in theology
  • Some relevant teaching experience or communication of the fields of theology
  • Experience in communicating your subject
  • Knowledge of education, research, and practice within the fields of theology.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently with changing tasks in a small organization
  • Knowledge of Greenlandic culture and good language skills in Greenlandic, Danish, and English.

Work tasks

  • Your tasks as a vocational teacher will primarily consist of: Teaching in the bachelor's program in Theology according to further agreement with the department head. The person hired should expect that part of the teaching will be outside their own areas of focus.
  • Guidance and examination of bachelor's students.
  • To contribute to the ongoing development of the bachelor's degree in Theology as well as potentially developing new programs and continuing education within the field.
  • Knowledge dissemination within the department's subject areas.
  • Participation in the administrative and collegial collaboration.
  • Personal competencies You are patient and accommodating.
  • You are positive and approachable and good at collaborating, communicating, and motivating.
  • You are capable of thinking development-oriented.
  • You can keep multiple balls in the air without losing track.

Employment procedure

The institute director establishes an advisory hiring committee in collaboration with the department. The committee assists management in selecting candidates for interviews and in making recommendations regarding hiring.

About employment:

The employment period at the vocational teacher level is 4 years.

The vocational teacher must have obtained a relevant master's or master's degree before the end of the 4th year of employment. Thereafter, the vocational teacher transitions to a position as a study assistant.

About Ilisimatusarfik

Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University, was established in 1987 and currently offers 13 different programs, including some part-time programs at both diploma and master's levels. Ilisimatusarfik is an Arctic university that creates knowledge and innovation in a rapidly developing region. The board is the university's highest management. The daily management is handled by the rector and the university director. The four institutes are led by an institute head, who is advised by an institute council.

About the Joint Administration

The Joint Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik and Ilinniarfissuaq. The departments work closely with the academic units, but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration include: student administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and the Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
