The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking dedicated teachers for Tasiilami Alivarpi, an urban school with 319 students in Tasiilaq. We are looking for qualified teachers for general subjects focusing on Greenlandic, special education, and inclusion. The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for skilled and dedicated teachers for the school in Tasiilaq.

East Greenland is one of the most beautiful places in the world with an untouched and diverse Arctic nature. East Greenland lies between the great sea ice and the enormous ice sheet. Both provide year-round the most beautiful scenes of icebergs in all possible shades from white to turquoise blue.

Tasiilami Alivarpi is a municipal school with approximately 319 students divided into 25 classes. There are 57 teachers employed at the school, distributed across the youngest, middle, and oldest grades.

Tasiilaq is the largest town on Greenland's east coast with about 1900 inhabitants. The school is the largest cultural institution in East Greenland.

The content of the positions:

We are looking for qualified teachers and preschool teachers to join the school's teaching team for all of the school's general subjects. We particularly focus on Greenlandic, special education in special classes, and preferably advisory experience, being a contact teacher in our new initiative called "Naasunnguaq" with a special focus on inclusion, IT skills preferably as a mentor, as well as natural sciences and mathematics.

Passionate about the school and the work with children's and young people's education, and who can lead the further development of the school as a central part of the community in collaboration with the school board, other staff, students, and other citizens in the community.

Sees opportunities in an appreciative pedagogy that can create job satisfaction and well-being.

Has an overview, can make decisions, plan and delegate tasks, and is interested in developing the school.

Has empathy and understanding that inclusion means that every person is an enrichment for the community.

Will work to achieve a high degree of quality in teaching and ensure optimal use of the school's resources.

Can see the value in interdisciplinary collaboration in the local community regarding development and problem-solving, which will, among other things, contribute to further developing the cooperation between schools and the preschool sector.

Is trained as a teacher or educator

Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.

Fixed-term employment:

You will be employed on special fixed-term conditions according to the agreement of February 16, 2007, regarding employment on special fixed-term conditions. Additionally, a non-pensionable severance amount of DKK 18,000.00 is provided as an annual base amount per April 1, 1991, for every 12 months of employment. The amount is adjusted as special supplements and amounts to DKK 20,253.67 annually as of April 1, 2017. The severance amount is paid monthly along with the salary and is deposited into a blocked account in a Greenlandic financial institution.

Housing:

A staff housing option will be available for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the current rules for rent payment in Greenland's Self-Government and the municipality's properties, etc. in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary rental unit, for which rent, utilities, etc. will be paid in accordance with the above. The start date is dependent on when a staff accommodation is available. A relocation travel allowance and moving expenses for household goods are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
