Department Leader

Department leader sought for the Administration for Children and Family in Paamiut. The position involves responsibility for the department's operations and development in the area of placements. The Municipality of Sermersooq's administration for Children and Family in Paamiut is seeking a skilled department leader.

Are you a social worker with leadership experience, and are you passionate about the child and family sector? Do you have the courage to be a key player in the further implementation of the administration's management framework?

The Administration for Children and Family manages the authority area and the intervention area under Family Center Tilioq.

The tasks in everyday life are handled by 2 authority caseworkers and 4 employees from the area of intervention with daily case processing, daily case processing and preparation of social professional investigations, as well as the preparation of action plans, and handling the case processing of placed children and young people in foster families and those placed in residential institutions.

The department manager shall be responsible for the overall management of the department's operations and tasks, with a particular focus on the development of the placement area together with the rest of the management team.

The child and family sector is under public scrutiny and has a focus. It is therefore essential that you can thrive under the pressure that this scrutiny may entail.

Furthermore, you must be able to handle a daily life with numerous challenges and many urgent issues. Therefore, you should be both resilient, goal-oriented, and driven by a strong commitment, as well as be prepared to take on significant responsibility.

Organizationally, the position will be placed in the Department for Children and Family with a location in Paamiut, and you will report to the head of the department in Paamiut.

You will become part of the municipality's management team and have personnel responsibility for a total of 8 employees under the administration for children and family in Paamiut-Tilioq.

The position is available for occupancy as soon as possible, possibly from June 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

Area of responsibility:

  • Professionally and financially responsible for the department together with the department head.
  • Linking connection with complex cases as well as in appeal cases and providing professional support in case processing in everyday life.
  • Provide professional supervision as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of professional specialization in handling placement cases.
  • Quality assurance and management of case processes and deadlines in accordance with the Child Support Act and the administration's administrative basis.
  • Quality assurance of settings for TFU and the committee.
  • Develop and ensure a constructive collaboration across departments, both internally within the authority area and in relation to the intervention area.
  • Collect and disseminate knowledge about the need for support measures.
  • Support and control case processing in collaboration with the department head.
  • Weekly meetings with the department head to ensure a consistent approach to professional task solving.
  • Responsible for departmental meetings and meetings for the social workers.
  • Be a part of the link to the management team in collaboration with the department head.
  • Ensure that the management basis is adhered to.
  • Ensure that the competency delegation plan is followed.
  • Other tasks as agreed with the department head for the area.
  • Coordination of aftercare cases and intervention cases
  • Coordination of reports to and from the Police
  • Responsible for the area of effort in collaboration with the department head.
  • Staff responsibility for employees under the Tilioq family center

Criminal and Child Certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record and child certificate. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a satisfactory criminal record and child certificate. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.

Housing:

A staff housing option will be available for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the applicable rules for rent payment in the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality's properties in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary vacancy, for which rent, utilities, etc. will be paid in accordance with the above. The start date is dependent on when a staff housing becomes available. Relocation travel and moving of personal belongings are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.
