The Family Center in Sisimiut is seeking an environmental worker to support children, youth, and their parents after traumatic events. The job involves supervision, support, and counseling as well as prevention work. The position requires a degree in social work or pedagogy and the ability to work interdisciplinary.

About the job/family center:

The Family Center in Qeqqata Municipality primarily works with trauma resulting from incidents such as sexual abuse, violence, neglect, and suicide. The Family Center's task is to ensure that families are supported and helped to move forward after such incidents. Additionally, the Family Center also has preventive initiatives, where families are supported from pregnancy onwards. Current staff includes 1 environmental worker, social educator, 2 home helpers, coordinator for family guidance, as well as social worker, coordinator/early intervention in Manu, psychotherapist, and manager. To strengthen the Family Center's goal of being an interdisciplinary, treatment-oriented center, we are seeking a coordinator for family guidance to join the team.

Special case processing has been initiated at the Family Center, where measures have been started to ensure that children are taken home after being placed outside the home and to avoid placements outside the home; therefore, we are looking for 2 home caregivers.

The tasks of the home care staff at the Family Center are as follows:

We can offer:

  • Supervision of living conditions among children and young people
  • Support the parents in raising and caring for their children.
  • Support the parents, children, and young people to have good communication with each other.
  • Support/advise children and young people in their daily problems in collaboration with their parents.
  • The environmental worker organizes various activities both indoors and outdoors, individually, in groups, or with the family.
  • Environmental workers must establish contact with young people and help the young person/child engage in active and positive leisure activities as an alternative to crime or other inappropriate behavior.
  • Prevention work for children and young people at recreational centers, e.g. investigation of basement areas in apartment blocks.
  • Participation in crisis work during serious incidents.
  • Holding of children/youth groups.
  • City tour in the evening.
  • Awareness campaign about bullying, kammagiitta.
  • Excursion in nature

We emphasize that you...

  • Educated as a social worker or further education in family guidance, or trained as an educator.
  • Is welcoming and has the ability to create a trusting relationship with those who come to the Family Center.
  • Values an interdisciplinary collaborative environment where different perspectives come into play.
  • Able to work independently and in teams.
  • Is bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish, but it is not a requirement.

Salary and employment conditions

This position is subject to the legislation on the obligation to obtain a child certificate. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has obtained a child certificate.

The child certificate will be part of the municipality's assessment of who is hired for the position.

Salary and employment conditions are primarily determined in accordance with the agreement between Qeqqata Municipality and the negotiating organization.

Housing can be provided for the position, for which rent and a deposit are paid according to applicable regulations.
