Day Surgery and Recovery Nurse

The Operation and Intensive Care area at Queen Ingrid's Hospital in Nuuk is seeking a maternity cover as a day surgery and recovery nurse. The position is available until April 1, 2026, or by agreement, and lasts for 1 year. Working hours are 40 hours/week between 08:00 and 18:00. You will be based in Greenland's newest day surgery and recovery department.

The Surgery and Intensive Care area at Queen Ingrid's Hospital in Nuuk is seeking a maternity leave substitute DAY SURGICAL AND RECOVERY NURSE.

Are you a nurse and do you want to work with day surgery patients and postoperative patient pathways?

The position as a day surgery and recovery nurse at Queen Ingrid's Hospital is available for appointment from April 1, 2026, or by agreement – and for a duration of 1 year.

The position has a working time of 40 hours/week. The working hours are on shifts between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

You will be based in Greenland's newest and most modern day surgery and recovery department.

You will be employed in the anesthesia department at DIH, which also has close collaboration with anesthesiologists and nurses.

We work at a high professional level in the specialties of orthopedics, abdominal surgery, gynecology, and ear-nose-throat. We operate in four operating rooms with a very diverse clientele, which provides a challenging and varied everyday life.

We are 14 anesthesia nurses - 4 recovery and surgical day unit nurses and a varying number of permanently employed anesthesiologists.

The main tasks of the day surgery and recovery nurse

Day surgery nursing:

  • Versatile nursing within the surgical and medical day hospital. Reception of patients of all ages, preparation for surgery/treatment, discharge after surgery/treatment.
  • The recovery nurse provides total nursing care to patients in the immediate postoperative period.
  • The need for postoperative treatment, care, and support is mapped and assessed through clinical competence and observations.
  • Nursing interventions must be prioritized and implemented, as well as continuously evaluated and documented.
  • Postoperative nursing takes place in close collaboration between the nurse, the patient, and possibly their relatives.
  • The use of medical equipment and the execution of technical procedures must be manageable in the treatment of the postoperative patient.
  • Nursing tasks are carried out in collaboration with doctors and other partners in the most appropriate and effective way for the patients, in order to ensure continuity in nursing care.

  • Preferably has clinical experience from working with recovery patients and the surgical specialty. If you do not have that, we still welcome your application.
  • Interest in pain management and postoperative nursing.
  • Is quality-conscious and committed.
  • Is adaptable and has good collaboration skills.

  • Due to language skills, it will be an advantage for you and us that you can speak and write Danish in addition to Greenlandic, as well as having knowledge of the English language and possibly Scandinavian languages.

Queen Ingrid's Hospital is a modern hospital with a high professional standard and good collegiality. The hospital has 182 beds for both inpatient and day care, including 60 day hospital and patient hotel beds, 4 intensive care places divided between neonatal/adult, and 8 recovery places.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
