The Department for Children, Youth, Justice, and Equality is seeking a strategic leadership profile to head a strong organization and to lead, develop, and anchor social and preventive initiatives in close dialogue with the agency's employees and other partners for the benefit of the citizens of Greenland.

You must be a leader with a strong analytical and strategic profile. You should be able to build and maintain solid collaborative relationships with partners, stakeholders, and the relevant area, and you should have a good understanding of working in a politically governed organization.

Areas of responsibility

  • The director has the responsibility, in collaboration with the remaining management team, to lead the Social Agency as an organization and to realize and ensure that the relevance of the Social Agency is balanced with the needs and resources in the social, health-promoting, and preventive areas. The primary tasks will therefore be to develop and strengthen municipal cooperation within the social and preventive sectors. Additionally, the director must ensure a close dialogue with the municipalities, so that their work is supported and balanced as effectively as possible.
  • The director has the responsibility to bridge the gap between politics and operations. It is the duty of the director, in collaboration with the management team, to contribute to the implementation of legislation and political goals, ensuring they create results for citizens and society - and that established goals and results are met within the given financial framework.
  • Preparation and follow-up on activity, service, and quality goals as well as action plans within the nationwide treatment offerings, residential institutions and round-the-clock services, and crisis centers.
  • The director must ensure that the Social Authority develops, communicates, monitors, and evaluates methods and practices so that they continuously meet the needs present in society. Additionally, the director must ensure and strengthen the important communication between the municipalities and the Social Authority, as well as the Department.

The Department for Children, Youth, and Families is seeking a new director to start on October 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. As the Director, you will be the top leader in the Social Agency, which is an organizational unit under the Department for Children, Youth, Justice, and Equality.

About you

  • You have an in-depth knowledge of social conditions in Greenland and an in-depth understanding of the health challenges related to health promotion and prevention. You have a suitable academic educational background. You have experience in management and decision-making.

You have good collaboration skills and the ability to listen. You have experience working with municipalities across the country. You have strong linguistic and communication skills. You have assertiveness and judgment, allowing you to confidently manage processes and prioritize tasks.

You have in-depth knowledge of Greenlandic language, culture, and social conditions.

The Danish Agency for Social Services

The Social Authority falls under the Ministry of Children, Youth, Justice, and Equality and has the following 5 departments: Paarisa, the Day and Admission Department, the Department for Advising Caseworkers, the Finance Department, and the Secretariat. The departments work closely together, and it is a workplace that offers plenty of professional challenges.

The main task of the Social Authority is

The Social Authority is a workplace with an exciting, relevant, and busy everyday life, where the level of ambition is high. The Social Authority helps implement politically adopted strategies regarding health promotion and prevention. We ensure that the strategic objectives translate into concrete management initiatives in daily operations. We take pride in delivering professional task solutions in line with political goals and for the benefit of citizens.

One of the central focus areas of the agency is collaboration with the municipalities. The Social Agency works to strengthen cooperation with the municipalities in carrying out health-promoting, preventive, developmental, and social counseling tasks. Another focus area of the Social Agency is to enhance development in the area of residential institutions while also improving conditions for citizens with disabilities.

The Social Authority falls under the Ministry of Children, Youth, Justice, and Gender Equality. The head of the agency reports directly to the permanent secretary.

 

Employment conditions

The position is filled on a fixed-term basis for 3 years. The position is currently salary-set at level 39. The salary with fixed salary components, own contribution to pension, and fixed-term allowance at LR 39 amounts to DKK 89,934 monthly and DKK 1,079,208 annually as of April 1, 2026.

Employment will primarily be on collective agreement terms, but if the applicant is already a civil servant under the civil service laws for the public Greenland, employment may occur on civil service terms.

For the position, it applies that no maximum length of service has been established and that the provisions regarding compensation for overtime and the provisions regarding compensation for lost days off do not apply; the working hours are initially 40 hours per week.

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses upon hiring and termination, in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of commencement.

Housing

No housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to the assigned housing is retained. The housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
