Student assistant for Arctic cooperation and the Foreign Affairs area
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seeking a student assistant for employment starting July 1, 2026, or as soon as possible by agreement. The position is temporary and is expected to last until the end of May 2027. We are looking for 1 skilled student assistant who can join the office's Arctic team.
The purpose of the position is to represent Greenland's interests in international cooperation and a number of international forums. In this context, 1 student assistant is sought to assist in the implementation of the chairmanship in the Arctic Council, where we will be organizing a series of chairmanship events in the autumn of 2026 and winter/spring of 2027 until the chairmanship is expected to be handed over in May 2027.

Together with the other employees of the office, you will also be responsible for relevant practical tasks related to the Department of Foreign Affairs, such as Assisting in the management and implementation of the chairmanship of the Arctic Council 2025-2027.

Contribute to the practical solution of the events planned under the presidency, including coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Arctic Department, the Faroese Government, and the Arctic Council Secretariat in Tromsø.

Coordination and response to internal and external consultations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is organizationally placed under the Naalakkersuisut for Foreign Affairs, Business, and Natural Resources. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs employs approximately 26 staff members. The office consists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nuuk as well as representations in Brussels, Washington DC, Reykjavik, and Beijing.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the central authority in the Self-Government that represents Greenland's interests of an international nature and coordinates and facilitates the international activities of the sector departments. Our work thus includes both relations with other countries and regional and international collaborations, including in the Nordic Council, the Arctic Council, as well as in the UN Human Rights Council and the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues. The employment will be a fixed-term project position from 2026 to 2027 in accordance with the allocated funds in the finance bill. During the project period, the employee must also be prepared for a change in job responsibilities.

Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions, including the right to travel for joining and leaving, as well as relocation of personal belongings, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
For an applicant with the right documentable competencies, employment as a special consultant, chief consultant, or senior advisor can occur in accordance with the applicable agreement.
Housing
No staff housing is provided for the position. If an applicant already has staff housing through employment in the Self-Government, the right to assigned staff housing is retained. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.
