Nurse with somatic experience sought for summer position at Maniitsoq Health Center. The work involves caring for patients from various specialties, including medicine and surgery. The department also functions as an emergency room outside normal working hours. The position requires independence, teamwork skills, and adaptability. Maniitsoq offers scenic surroundings and modern facilities.
Nurse with somatic experience sought for summer position from June 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026, in the ward at Maniitsoq Health Center, Greenland 2025.
Do you dream of experiencing, traveling, and working in your field in the Arctic? Then you now have the opportunity to apply for a summer position as a nurse in a general mixed medical and surgical ward at a smaller health center in the town of Maniitsoq on Greenland's west coast.
You will primarily be employed in a ward where, in collaboration with your colleagues, you are responsible for organizing and providing nursing care to the hospitalized patients coming from various specialties. The patients are of all ages and are admitted for observation, stabilization, treatment, care, and rehabilitation. Occasionally, patients are transferred for further treatment at Queen Ingrid's Hospital or Rigshospitalet in Denmark. The department also sees patients admitted for palliative care. These processes are organized in collaboration with and support from the national palliative care team. Additionally, the department may occasionally have patients with psychiatric disorders admitted. Treatment of patients with psychiatric disorders often occurs in collaboration with the psychiatric home care nurse and psychiatry in Nuuk. After 4:00 PM on weekdays and 24/7 on weekends, the department also functions as an emergency room and "doctor's office." Here, you will participate in the triage of acute patients with the possibility of calling in or consulting with a doctor.
In your daily work, you report to the department head. You primarily work day or evening shifts. You alternate with your colleagues to be on call for the department from home during the hours of 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
