Principal

Following the departure of the previous principal, GUX Qaqortoq is seeking a new principal. We are looking for an inclusive leader who can develop and motivate students and staff. The right candidate must be administratively skilled, able to manage responsibilities, and work strategically and pedagogically to strengthen secondary education in Greenland.

AFTER THE DEPARTURE OF THE FORMER RECTOR, THE TIME HAS COME TO FIND A NEW RECTOR FOR GUX IN QAQORTOQ.

We are therefore looking for a proper and inclusive leader who is passionate about developing and motivating both students and staff, and who possesses resilience and the ability to keep a cool head when challenges and situations arise that require action, thoroughness, and overview.

We are looking for a leader who can continue the work of creating a strong and well-functioning gymnasium, and who dares to take the lead in implementing the development initiatives that can help strengthen the upper secondary education for young people in Greenland in the future. Therefore, our upcoming leader must be administratively skilled and able to manage the responsibilities that come with it, both strategically and administratively as well as pedagogically.

We are therefore looking for a leader who strives to develop both short-term and long-term goals in collaboration with a versatile and passionate group of teachers with a high professional level. Professional and pedagogical development and collective actions on challenges are highly prioritized and must remain a continuous part of the school's backbone in the future, not least because the school is an active part of the national development work to strengthen the GUX education, where changes, challenges, and opportunities are part of the development process and daily life.

Your main responsibilities will be:

To be a visible and inclusive leader for GUX Nuuk:

  • internally in relation to students, teachers, and other staff
  • outwardly in relation to society

We are therefore looking for a rector candidate who can meet the following qualifications:

  • Has experience in management and personnel administration, preferably with a relevant leadership education (this is not a requirement) and who can see themselves in the systemic leadership style – insight and experience from the high school sector is a clear advantage.
  • Has strong administrative and financial skills - our principals must be well-versed in finance and budgeting.
  • Is able to act in a changing and complex everyday life with controlled pulse and overview, and set clear frameworks for development at the school.
  • Has strong strategic abilities and is able to translate visions into goals and results.
  • Is visible, robust, and clear in the management of independent, professionally specialized educators, and can create direction, engagement, and followership among employees.
  • Is able to involve broadly and set ambitious, realistic, and qualified goals, follow up on goals, and ensure progress.
  • Is collaborative and can build strong relationships both internally and externally.
  • Has a strong communicative and strategic sense that can help ensure decisions are anchored in the organization.
  • Very much likes to speak and understand Greenlandic, Danish, and English.
  • Has the will and ambition to create the best possible results and opportunities for as many young people as possible.
  • Has relevant academic education and teaching competence in at least one subject at the upper secondary level.
