The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a strategic and committed department head for the Youth Center in Nuuk. The position involves management responsibility for five units working with children and youth aged 6-23. You will ensure compliance with legislation, strategic development, financial management, and collaboration with relevant authorities.
The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a skilled, strategic, and dedicated department head for the Youth Center, starting on April 1, 2026, or by agreement.
The Youth Center works holistically with children and young people who need support, treatment, guidance, and relationship building. We work with both referred children and young people as well as outreach efforts for children and young people who are not referred but need adult contact, structure, and the development of healthy communities.
The Youth Center consists of five units:
1. Outreach Youth Advisors – relationship and development work with children and young people aged 6–17.
2. Aftercare Youth Advisors – support for young people aged 18–23 in the transition to independent adult life.
3. The place to be – a safe offer for children and young people aged 10–17.
4. The Safety Patrol – preventive and outreach efforts during evening and night hours.
5. The mentoring program – individual support and relationship work with a special focus on development and well-being.
The content of the position:
As the department manager, you will have overall management responsibility for the Youth Center's five units, with a total of approximately 37 employees.
You report to the head of department and are part of the overall leadership team in the Child and Family area.
Your primary tasks:
·Overall professional and personnel management of the Youth Center
Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with applicable legislation and the Inatsisartut Act on support for children.
Strategic development and implementation of initiatives in the youth sector
·Budget responsibility, financial management, and ongoing budget monitoring
Quality assurance of workflows and documentation
Recruitment and hiring in collaboration with HR and the department head
Conducting MUS/LUS conversations
Ensure competence development and professional sparring
Participation in leadership meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration forums
Collaboration with the police, social authorities, schools, and other partners.
Participation in task forces and development groups
·Responsibility for crisis management and leadership in acute situations
Participation in and coordination of efforts during acute incidents
·Emergency phone 24/7 all year round
·Ad hoc tasks within the area
You have the overall responsibility for operations, development, and cohesion between the five units.
We expect that you:
·Has a relevant education as a pedagogue, social worker, or other social professional background
·Has solid experience in the social sector – particularly with children and youth
·Has documented management experience (e.g., as a manager, team leader, or subject coordinator)
·Has experience with financial management and development work
Can work both strategically and operationally.

Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Criminal and Child Certificate:
The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.
The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
