The Department for Children and Schools is seeking a skilled and dedicated Department Head for the Support Persons Department in the Child and Youth Sector. The department is responsible for recruiting, advising, and guiding support persons, as well as establishing cooperation between support persons, children, parents, and professionals involved with the children.

The Department for Children and Schools is seeking a skilled and dedicated Department Head for the Support Persons Department in the Child and Youth Sector. The department oversees all daycare, school, leisure, prevention, and cultural areas, as well as support persons in the child and youth sector. Our mission is to create the best possible framework for all children in Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, enabling them to achieve learning, development, and well-being, laying the foundation for a meaningful life. The Support Persons Department is relatively new and still developing, consisting of two skilled and dedicated support person coordinators, a student assistant, and approximately 110 support persons. The department handles recruitment, advice, guidance of support persons, and establishes cooperation between support persons, children, parents, and professionals. The department continuously works to optimize and further develop processes and workflows to ensure a smooth and streamlined experience for citizens and colleagues across the municipality. We are looking for an experienced department head passionate about children and eager to develop the support person area for children and youth. The full-time, newly established position reports to the Head of Daycare in the Department for Children and Schools. Your primary tasks will include: managing daily operations and professional sparring for support person coordinators and support persons; having overall responsibility for support person cases in the child and youth sector, including overseeing grants and resources; being responsible for the admissions committee, including convening, coordinating, and leading meetings; working strategically on developing the support person area, ensuring competence development and quality in efforts; supporting interdisciplinary collaboration on individual children's support needs when assigning support persons; ensuring good and coordinated cooperation between departments, institutions, schools, and parents; contributing to optimizing and further developing the department's workflows and processes for a smooth and efficient collaboration with citizens and colleagues; recruiting support persons and ensuring stable substitute coverage; solving administrative tasks related to the area. Expectations for applicants: relevant education, e.g., social worker or educator; management experience and comfort taking responsibility for both operations and development; knowledge of the social sector and children with special needs, preferably experience with support schemes or advisory work; a positive outlook, desire, and ability to focus on what works; a clear and trustworthy leader who can motivate, spar, and guide employees; personal and professional integrity; actively contributes to continuously developing and improving our task solutions; robust and demonstrates initiative, surplus, and decisiveness; communicates clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally; skilled in administrative tasks and familiar with digital systems; knowledge of Greenlandic culture and societal conditions; bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage but not a requirement. Criminal and Child Record: The position is subject to the law requiring a criminal and child record check. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child records. Therefore, the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child record from the national police and the criminal record from the police. The child record is obtained by the municipality with the individual's consent, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police. Salary and employment terms: Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the current agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization at the time of employment.
