Municipality of Qeqertalik seeks two interpreters and translators for employment starting June 1, 2026. Responsibilities include translating documents from the areas of Inoqarfik, Inuit, and Timi Tarnilu. Requirements: education in translation and interpretation, knowledge of IT, and experience with TMS. The position is located in INUA with the secretary manager as the immediate supervisor.

The municipality of Qeqertaliks headquarters INUA is seeking two interpreters and translators for employment starting June 1, 2026, or by further agreement.

It will be your responsibility to translate documents from the areas of Inoqarfik, Inuit, and Timi Tarnilu, as well as documents that will be used in connection with task execution in Municipality Qeqertalik.

The position is located in INUA, and your immediate supervisor is the head of the secretariat.

Your closest collaborators are the other interpreters, political secretaries in the secretariat, communication, as well as other areas of responsibility in Municipality Qeqertalik.

As an interpreter in Municipality Qeqertalik, you must perform these tasks:

·Written translation and interpretation

·Simultaneous interpretation, primarily in the languages Greenlandic and Danish, including in these cases:

  • Municipal council and standing committee
  • Internally and externally in Municipality Qeqertalik
  • Translation using translation machine TMS

We expect that you:

·Is educated in translation and interpretation

·Has knowledge of IT at user level

Can provide a good level of service

Can work independently and flexibly

·Has good collaboration skills and is friendly

·Has experience with translation using TMS and there is an opportunity to be instructed in using TMS after employment.

·Is service-minded, innovative,

And has a good mood

·Has a sense of order

Is self-employed and can maintain an overview even in pressured situations.

Can collaborate across the organization

Criminal record:

This position is subject to the law requiring the collection of a criminal record. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received a criminal record. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the criminal record from the Police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the negotiating organization.

Housing:

Housing can be provided for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. will be paid according to the current rules for rent payment in the properties of the Greenland Self-Government and the municipality in Greenland. If a permanent staff residence cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to a vacant residence will be offered a temporary vacant residence, for which A-tax will be paid for benefits in kind in accordance with applicable legislation.

OR The start date is dependent on when a staff housing becomes available. A relocation travel allowance and moving of household goods are provided in accordance with applicable regulations.

A staff housing must be vacated upon the termination of the employment relationship.

The position is desired to be filled after the application deadline or by further agreement.

Towns: Aasiaat, Qasigiannguit, Qeqertarsuaq, Kangaatsiaq. Settlements: Niaqornaarsuk, Attu, Ikerasaarsuk, Akunnaaq, Iginniarfik, Ikamiut, Kitsissuarsuit, Kangerluk.

About Aasiaat:

The central administration of Municipality Qeqertalik is located in Aasiaat. And in Aasiaat is the Northern Greenlandic Gymnasium Education (GUX). Annual recurring events: Midnight Sun Marathon, Nipiaa Rock Festival.
