You will be part of an interpreting department with three positions, where we work closely together, support each other, and help each other in our daily tasks. The atmosphere is informal and positive, even when things are busy.
You will have a varied workday with changing tasks, where your main task is to help citizens, employees, and authorities understand each other. Your efforts make a difference and are appreciated. There is an opportunity to contribute to the development of the interpreting field.
The work takes place both at the administration office and in the municipality's other units. Some days are busy, and there are occasionally tasks in the evening hours and on weekends. The working hours are 40 hours per week. One should expect business trips in relation to the position.
Your tasks

Translation of ad hoc tasks through the municipality's systems

Interpretation for, among others, Sullissivik, MISI, the Family Center, and Majoriaq

Simultaneous interpretation at committee meetings and municipal council meetings (MunicipalityTV)

Quality assurance of translations

Independent problem-solving in a daily life with many tasks

About the municipality
Avannaata Municipality has 10,800 inhabitants spread across the towns of Ilulissat, Uummannaq, Upernavik, and Qaanaaq, as well as 21 settlements. Ilulissat is a growing town with high activity, and a new Atlantic airport is set to open in 2026. In the summer, many tourists visit the town, and there are great opportunities for a rich community and natural life.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
Housing
Housing can be provided for the position.
