Are you interested in a 6 or 4 month position as a reserve doctor in psychiatry at Dr. Ingrid's Hospital, Nuuk, Greenland?
As a psychiatric doctor in Nuuk, you have a meaningful job where you can make a visible difference for your patients. You follow your own patients throughout their treatment process, which provides a good opportunity to assess treatment effectiveness and to build a relationship with each individual patient.
As a department responsible for all psychiatric treatment in Greenland, you can acquire a wide range of psychiatric competencies here, and the opportunities for bedside supervision are good. Here, you will experience close personal collaboration with many staff groups and a strong sense of community, both professionally and socially.
We can offer younger doctors, both with and without psychiatric experience, a minimum of 6 months employment in the Psychiatric Department, Queen Ingrid's Hospital in Nuuk. 3-month positions are primarily offered to doctors with psychiatric experience.
The psychiatric area consists of the inpatient department A1 (12 beds, of which three are in a secured section) and the psychiatric outpatient clinic (including a general psychiatric outpatient clinic as well as the district psychiatry in Nuuk with 170 affiliated patients). We have a collaboration with the Central Denmark Region with a monthly conference and 16 beds in a forensic psychiatric department at Aarhus University Hospital, as well as a weekly conference with the child and adolescent psychiatry in the Capital Region.
What can you expect?
As a junior doctor in the Psychiatric Area, you may have roles in the department, in the psychiatric outpatient clinic, and in on-call duties. In the department, you are the contact doctor and conduct ward rounds for your own patients in collaboration with other doctors, handling assessment and treatment. Outpatient, you can see patients associated with the district psychiatry or general psychiatric outpatient clinic, including telepsychiatric consultations with patients from the coast.
You will be the primary caregiver in a 3-5 shift rotation, where there is always the opportunity for supervision by the backup caregiver.
The on-call guard is on standby from home with an average duty load of 3 hours after normal daytime work. We have up to 7 admissions per week, most of which occur during the day. There is close collaboration with specialists, with time allocated for professional sparring every day and good opportunities for personal feedback.
This structure also allows a doctor to take on significant responsibility for individual patient pathways in a safe environment. The Psychiatric Area is approved as a training department for the main education in General Medicine.
You will never be alone with us, as we have a good collegial team spirit in psychiatry and have collaboration agreements with specialists in Denmark.
With us, you will have unique opportunities for professional development, especially in the areas of psychosis issues, suicidology, traumatology, and the transcultural field. You can also get involved in research in these topics if interested.
What do we expect from you?
It is a requirement that you have Danish authorization for independent practice. Pre-KBU doctors may be offered employment in certain special cases.
In addition, it is expected that you have the courage for professional development and close collaboration with other professional groups. You possess a good overview and have strong collaboration skills, and you are resilient and adaptable.
Who are you?
We are looking for younger doctors who can combine medical professionalism with a desire to work in psychiatry in Nuuk, where there are many different patients and many exciting tasks. You must be able to maintain an overview and be flexible, as the medical practice is challenged within a broad range of diagnoses and collaboration with several professional groups, partners, and a daily routine with acute and logistical issues.
