About us:
You will meet dedicated and professionally competent colleagues who are very aware of good collaboration relationships and interdisciplinarity. We have a culture characterized by trust and respect, which is absolutely crucial for our daily work and patient care.
The Medical Department, DIH, has an outpatient clinic, a day ward, and 26 beds distributed across two inpatient wards; an integrated children's ward with eight beds and an intermediate ward with six beds for monitoring patients with heart diseases and other acute illnesses that need close observation in the first few days. Additionally, complex patients are seen at the Patient Hotel, which accommodates patients coming from areas outside Nuuk.
In the medical wards, patients are admitted across all medical specialties. The Medical Day Unit provides certain types of oncological treatment in Greenland as well as various day hospital functions such as biological treatment. The Medical Outpatient Clinic handles outpatient functions within all medical specialties as well as pediatrics.
The medical field is very broad, exciting, and challenging. Virtually all types of medical conditions exist, including diseases that are rarely seen elsewhere.
We receive patients from all over Greenland, and our doctors regularly participate in patient transport, where critically ill patients need to be transported from regional hospitals to DIH.
You will experience the art of medicine in a different way than what you know from Danish conditions. On weekdays, you will primarily collaborate with your colleagues to do ward rounds in the inpatient units, become proficient in taking medical histories, and get acquainted with shift work mainly during the day.
Queen Ingrid's Health Center, DIS, is physically located in connection with the regional hospital, DIH. The health center is modern and provides primary health services for Nuuk's health district as well as associated settlements. The health center resembles a Danish general practice in daily operations; in addition, we have a duty doctor and emergency room function available around the clock, which is alternately handled by doctors employed at the health center. This means that virtually all types of patients are received and treated or referred to DIH.
For all educational programs, there is supervision according to the education plan.
We guarantee that you will gain a broad experience through a program that is both professionally and personally developing. A prerequisite for a good stay is that you are able to collaborate with different professional groups.
You will become acquainted with shift work in the emergency room mainly during daytime. There will be opportunities for occasional night shifts once you are introduced to the departments and familiar with the workflows and conditions at both DIH and DIS.
