The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking a dedicated counselor for Open Counseling, which offers early and anonymous advice to children, young people, and families. The position is full-time and requires relevant social education as well as experience in counseling and crisis conversations.

Treatment Provider for Open Counseling

The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking an engaged and professionally strong treatment provider for Open Counseling under Preventive Actions and Counseling.

Open Counseling offers early, preventive, and anonymous counseling to children, young people, and families who need support, guidance, or crisis conversations. The aim is to create a safe and easily accessible offer where families can receive help at an early stage before problems develop.


The department consists of dedicated employees with social professional competencies who work with relationship-building and supportive actions for families and citizens. Open Counseling operates within the framework of anonymous counseling, where citizens and families can seek help anonymously for up to 5 conversations. If necessary and after professional assessment, further referral to relevant offers or actions can occur.


The position is a full-time position reporting to the Department Head for Preventive Actions and Counseling.

Content of the Position:

We are looking for an experienced treatment provider to join the work in Open Counseling and handle a range of tasks including:

∙Counseling and support conversations with children, young people, and families
∙Crisis conversations for families in acute or stressful situations
∙Early and preventive actions
∙Relationship and motivation work
∙Guidance and support for parents and families
∙Assessment of the need for further referral to relevant offers or actions
∙Ad hoc tasks


Expectations for Applicants:

∙Relevant social professional education as a social worker, educator, therapist, or other relevant education
∙Experience with counseling, crisis conversations, or family treatment is an advantage
∙Professional insight into the well-being and development of children, young people, and families
∙Ability to create safe relationships and work in a respectful and holistic manner

∙Are stable, responsible, and quality-conscious
∙Work independently and in a structured manner
∙Have good collaboration skills
∙Communicate clearly and distinctly both verbally and in writing
∙Can maintain calm and overview in pressured situations
∙Are flexible and solution-oriented
∙Contribute positively to the development of preventive work
∙Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement

Criminal and Child Certificate:

This position is covered by the law requiring the collection of criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal certificate from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal certificate is obtained by the individual from the Police.


Salary and Employment Conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.


Employment will be subject to a 3-month probationary period.


Housing:
No staff housing can be provided for the position.
