The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for an engaged department head for Pension and Housing Benefits in Nuuk. The position involves leading a team and ensuring social professional quality in the work with citizens seeking pension and housing benefits. The desired start date is as soon as possible.

Department Head for Pension and Housing Benefits


The Municipality of Sermersooq is looking for a skilled and committed Department Head for Pension and Housing Benefits in Social Services under the Administration for Welfare and Labor Market in Nuuk, starting November 1, 2026, or as soon as possible.


Pension and Housing Benefits handles tasks related to adult citizens seeking early retirement, old-age pension, housing benefits, and personal allowances.


The Department Head's tasks consist of management as well as ensuring good social professional quality of the work in the field. The department currently consists of about 10 employees.


The position is placed under the Municipality of Sermersooq’s administration for Welfare and Labor Market, where the head of Job and Social Services is the immediate supervisor for the department head.



Job Content:


We are looking for a – preferably experienced – department head to participate in the management tasks in the social professional work and handle a number of tasks including:


·Staff management, including; performance reviews, well-being, optimal use of working hours, planning of vacations, structuring staff days, approval of time reports (webtas), and hiring of new employees


·Structuring of course offerings together with the management team


·Ensuring that legislation is followed regarding case processes in collaboration with the team leader


·Responsible for appropriate use of the department's resources, coordinated with other management


·Interdisciplinary collaboration and sparring


·Conducting departmental meetings and staff meetings as well as coordinating the department's other meetings together with the team leader


·Leading coordinator on requests for documents, statements, and similar as well as complaint cases


·Factually and financially responsible for the department


·Briefings to the head of department


·Participate in urgent tasks in the Administration for Welfare and Labor Market


·Ad hoc tasks decided in the management group


The tasks are solved in close collaboration with the other leaders and employees of the Administration for Welfare and Labor Market as well as other interdisciplinary partners.



Expectations for Applicants:


· Social professional education (Advisor in social work, social worker)


· Good experience with social professional work


· Management trained or with interest in management training

Criminal Record:

This position is subject to the law on the obligation to obtain a criminal record. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received a criminal record. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the criminal record from the Police.



Salary and Employment Conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.


Housing:

There will be the possibility of assigning staff housing for the position, for which a deposit and rent, utilities, etc. are paid according to the applicable rules for rent payment in the Government of Greenland and the municipality's properties, etc. in Greenland. If permanent staff housing cannot be made available immediately upon commencement, employees entitled to temporary housing will be offered a temporary vacant housing, for which rent, utilities, etc. are paid according to the above. The start date is dependent on when a staff housing is available. A relocation travel and moving expenses will be provided according to applicable rules.
