The children's home Sarliaq in Ilulissat is seeking a social worker to work with foster children. The position requires experience with the target group and a focus on stability and structure. The Children's Home Sarliaq is a residential institution for placed children and young people located in Ilulissat, Greenland. There is room for a total of 20 children and young people aged 0-18 years spread across 3 different departments. The placed children have had a childhood marked by neglect and/or abuse and come from all over Greenland.

At Sarliaq, we work with relationship pedagogy in a recognizing perspective in a very structured environment and focus on having a recognizing approach to the children and young people. We emphasize that they have a stable everyday life with schooling, leisure interests, and a social life outside the institution. On weekends and holidays, we try to offer the children good experiences in nature in the form of cabin trips in Sarliaq's cabin at Oqaatsut, skiing, and participating in various events in the town.

Your tasks:

As a social worker, your primary tasks will include:

  • Following up on the children and young people's cases and development.

  • Preparing and following up on treatment plans, action plans, and status reports.

  • Ensuring documentation and follow-up in collaboration with the staff.

  • Maintaining ongoing contact and collaboration with municipal caseworkers.

  • Participating in meetings with the municipality, schools, healthcare, and other relevant partners.

  • Supporting the collaboration between the child/young person, the family, and the children's home.

  • Helping to ensure that the child's/young person's rights and needs are heard and included.

  • Following up on agreements, initiatives, and goals regarding the individual child.

  • Contributing to the preparation of professional assessments and recommendations.

  • Supporting the staff with social professional sparring regarding the needs of the children and young people.

  • Assisting in planning network meetings, status meetings, and other relevant meetings.

  • Ensuring good interdisciplinary collaboration around the children.

  • Contributing to the development of the children's home's professional practice and workflows.

We are looking for someone who

  • Is a trained social worker or has a relevant social professional education.

  • Has experience with children and young people in vulnerable positions.

  • Has knowledge of social professional authority work and relevant legislation.

  • Can work in a structured and independent manner.

  • Is good at written documentation and professional communication.

  • Has good collaboration skills and can create positive relationships with both children, young people, families, and partners.

  • Can maintain an overview in complex cases.

  • Is caring, clear, and professional.

  • Can work from a recognizing and relationship-based approach.

  • Wants to help develop the quality of work at the Children's Home Sarliaq.

The working hours are 40 hours per week.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including the right to relocation and moving expenses, according to the agreement/collective agreement applicable at the time of commencement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

Housing

Unfurnished staff housing can be offered for the position according to the applicable rules at any time. Housing cannot be offered to individuals who already have staff housing or another housing owned by the municipality or the Government of Greenland. Rent and deposit are paid according to the applicable rules for the assigned housing. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the housing, ownership conditions, etc. There may be a waiting period for the assignment of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller co-housing communities or hotel apartments, for which taxation applies. It is not possible to keep larger pets, e.g., dogs or cats, in staff or temporary housing.
