We are looking for a leading social worker for the Assistance Department in Maniitsoq. The position involves responsibility for organizing staff, handling citizen inquiries, and ensuring compliance with legislation. Knowledge of the assistance area and experience with municipal case processing are necessary qualifications.
Leading social worker for the Assistance Department in Maniitsoq
The Welfare area consists of 28 employees distributed across the Children and Family Department, the Staff including the Secretariat and the Assistance Department, the Elderly and Disability Pension and Handicap Department.
There are a total of 3 caseworkers in the assistance department itself, including the leading social worker.
Work and responsibilities:
- The work must be carried out according to the Inatsisartut Act on Public Assistance, in accordance with the Job and Function Description.
- To ensure the organization of personnel in the department as well as to initiate the processing of inquiries, to ensure that the workflow is conducted according to the law and to delegate tasks to staff.
- Collection and planning of citizen inquiries regarding public assistance according to the municipality's opening hours.
- To ensure that the caseworkers in the assistance department follow the tasks listed below.
- Conducting interviews with citizens seeking public assistance.
- Preparation and follow-up of action plans for public assistance recipients.
- To prepare applications for people who want treatment for alcohol abuse, abuse of narcotic substances, and gambling addiction.
- Management of pocket money during care stays in the health system during the treatment period.
- Payment of bills.
- To assist people who need help writing a letter.
- Processing applications for early retirement.
- Personnel administration in the shelter and ensuring compliance and execution of tasks.
We envision that you:
- Have knowledge of legislation in the assistance area.
- Have knowledge of ERP/Prisme.
- Have experience with municipal case processing, etc.
- Experience with network and treatment meetings.
- Can maintain a good overview, even in stressful situations.
Professional qualifications
- Educated social worker or have another relevant social education.
- Bilingual.
- Good language and writing skills.
- Relevant education preferably in public administration and several years of administrative experience.

Salary and employment conditions:
Employment and remuneration are in accordance with the applicable agreements and collective agreements at any given time.
A staff housing may be provided, for which payment is made according to applicable rules.
Start as soon as possible or by agreement.
Child and criminal record certificate
This position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain a child and criminal record certificate. According to the legislation, employment can only be considered when the municipality has received a child and criminal record certificate. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon when the municipality has received the criminal record certificate from the Police.
