The Institute of Learning at Ilisimatusarfik is seeking a lecturer or assistant professor with a research profile in learning and pedagogy. Lecturer or Assistant Professor with a PhD in Learning and Pedagogy. The Institute for Learning at Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University, is seeking a lecturer or assistant professor with a research profile in learning and pedagogy, who can participate in teaching and developing the institute's university education in teacher training, master's programs, and continuing education, as well as university pedagogy.
The selected applicant for the position will join the Institute for Learning's research group and the research environment at Greenland's research center for learning and education (Iluliaq) and will contribute to the further development of existing research. It is expected that the selected applicant will conduct empirical research both as independent research projects and in collaboration with the institute's other researchers, thereby contributing to the establishment of a knowledge base in and about learning, pedagogy, and education in Greenland.
The position is desired to be filled by August 1, 2026, or by agreement.
The Institute for Learning provides a framework for a diverse research and study environment with approximately 160 students, 25 full-time employees, and a number of PhD students. The institute offers a bachelor's degree in learning (teacher education), a master's in didactics, cultural encounters, and change processes, as well as continuing education and competency development in selected subjects in primary education and special education. Furthermore, the institute is responsible for the university's pedagogical training program.
At Ilisimatusarfik, Greenland's University, teaching can take place in Greenlandic, Danish (Scandinavian), and English.

Research, teaching, and communication qualifications equivalent to the level of assistant professor or associate professor.

Knowledge of and experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research and motivation to develop skills in both areas.

Work tasks

Your primary work tasks, in addition to research in the field of general pedagogy or learning-oriented areas, will be centered around teaching in the institute's programs. In relation to teaching, it will be possible to focus on the teacher education program and the master's program, where it will be an advantage to be able to teach in general pedagogy and possibly a specific subject area among the subjects offered in primary schools. It is also possible to take on a leadership role in the university pedagogy program, where knowledge of general university pedagogy is necessary. Specifically, the following work tasks will be involved: Teaching in the teacher education program (BA), in the master's program, in upcoming master's courses, and/or in the university pedagogy program.

Participate in existing research projects at the institute, as well as develop and participate in new research projects with external funding that are relevant to Greenland.

Actively participate and engage in grant applications and international networks.

Guidance and examination of students at the bachelor's, master's, and lecturer PhD level.

Further development of the programs in collaboration with the institute's other staff.

Dissemination of research-based knowledge to both peer-reviewed journals as well as popular science in Greenlandic media, and to the political level.

Previous experience with guidance, teaching, and coordination of modules will be prioritized, especially with a background in teacher education or university pedagogy. Additionally, knowledge of Greenland and the Arctic is highly relevant, but not a requirement.

Appendix 5: Brief description of previous research and an outline of possible future research project(s). Possible research activities are described in English.
Appendix 6: A teaching portfolio with documentation of teaching qualifications and university pedagogy or equivalent, as well as possible reflections on one's past and future teaching activities.
Appendix 7: Documentation for research dissemination.
Appendix 8: Up to five publications of chapter or article length. The applicant may select a maximum of five publications that are particularly relevant for the assessment when applying for a position as associate professor and a maximum of three articles when applying for a position as assistant professor.

Assessment and hiring procedure
The assessment of the applicants is carried out by an expert evaluation committee according to applicable rules. The applicants will be informed about the composition of the evaluation committee after the application deadline has passed. The committee reviews the submitted applications and makes a recommendation to the institute leader, who then invites the candidate/candidates for an interview.
The employment period at the assistant professor level is normally for a period of 4 years with the possibility of a 2-year extension, and there is a requirement for residence in Greenland. After this, the employee may transition to a permanent position as an associate professor following a positive evaluation.
Employment as a lecturer can take place on the condition of a positive lecturer assessment prior to employment or if the applicant has obtained a lecturer assessment in the subject area elsewhere. There is a requirement for residence in Greenland.
3 months probation period

The Joint Administration serves the entire university. It is led by the university director. The Joint Administration has departments in Ilimmarfik. The departments work closely with the academic units, but also collaborate with each other. The tasks of the Joint Administration are: student administration, personnel administration, servicing the board and the Academic Council, as well as other service functions for the university's staff and students. The Joint Administration is also responsible for the building operations of Ilimmarfik.
