The Tupaarnaq children's home is seeking an energetic and independent social and health helper to work with neglected children and youth. The job involves varying working hours, participation in activities and project trips, as well as collaboration with parents and interdisciplinary teams. Experience with neglected children is required.
The Tupaarnaq children's home is designated for 9 children aged 4 to 18 years. It is divided into 2 departments. The target group is children and young people who have experienced neglect and are at risk of developmental issues but have developmental potential. The staffing ratio includes 1 director, 2 department heads, 4 educators, 4 social workers, 2 assistants, and 1 cleaning/cook.
The children's home was established in 2005. All children and young people placed at Tupaarnaq come from Nuuk, where the intuition is located. This practically means that family and other networks are an important part of our pedagogical work and strategy. We prioritize relational work highly among all involved parties, as our experiences tell us that family has a significant impact on the child's development and well-being.
Our everyday life is structured and the predictability is high. We believe that these two concepts create the necessary security, which is crucial for the child's development of trust in themselves and their surroundings.
Our activity level is relatively high; we use the swimming pool, ski lift, and sports clubs as much as possible. We believe that physical well-being and motor skills contribute to creating a healthy surplus and foundation for development concerning the mental, cognitive, and emotional challenges that the children face during the assessment. Our fundamental belief is that if one is to learn to honor and understand the social rules of society, the child must be challenged in the various environments and contexts where we have our activities. Therefore, it is important that you as an employee want and can participate and be active in the activities that are set up for the children. The activities should be understood as relationship-building, the common third, and used in the narrative storytelling in our everyday context.
When the children have summer holidays, the entire institution goes on a colony trip. In the summer, we are away for 2 months where we live in a tent camp deep in the fjord (Ameralla/kilaarsarfik). Here we work on the development of the children on several parameters. We focus on relationship building, community understanding, outdoor skills, physical and mental challenges/struggles, hunting and fishing, sports, team building, and mindfulness, as well as duties and tasks that need to be completed when living in nature. During Easter/winter, we typically sail to Qoornoq for 10-12 days, where the conditions are different in relation to wind and weather. Here, winter activities are practiced, such as skiing, snowboarding, building snow caves, ptarmigan hunting in the mountains, and fishing with a rod. In addition, there are duties such as fetching ice for water, cooking, emptying the bucket (dry toilet), washing dishes, and general cleaning in the house.
We are therefore looking for energetic and independent social and health helpers who are willing to work with varying hours. We seek colleagues who can create trust and care, set boundaries, and be role models. Your working month will typically include 4-5 night shifts. Shifts in the duty room are not included in the 40 weekly hours. Therefore, you will receive a regular hourly wage during the sleeping hours. Additionally, there will be evening shifts from 1 PM to 9 PM and day shifts from 7 AM to 3 PM, as well as every other weekend.
The work area will include:
