The Residential Unit Ilasiaq is seeking an employee to work with socially disadvantaged children and youth in Nuuk. The Dandelion Center is an independent institution that aims to improve the conditions for neglected children and youth. We are looking for an employee with a relevant professional background, experience with children and youth, and who is creative, loyal, and trustworthy.

Bo-unit Ilasiaq with space for 7 socially disadvantaged children and young people is seeking 1 employee for immediate start.

The Dandelion Center is a self-governing institution that, in addition to the residential unit Ilasiaq, consists of the Children's and Youth House Dandelion, the residential unit Allu, the residential unit Aili, and an administration. The social pedagogical purpose of our work is to improve the conditions for children and young people who have experienced neglect and to prevent further neglect.

The children are empowered so that they become better at handling their everyday lives and breaking the patterns they have previously lived in. In the Dandelion Center's residential unit, we want to contribute to creating pattern breakers (Dandelion children), meaning children who, despite a traumatic upbringing, break the patterns they come from – pursue education, start families, and lead a dignified life.

Method

The daily educational work is organized based on a structured pedagogical framework, where clarity, predictability, transparency, visualization, and repetition are the key elements. In addition to this, we summarize various elements from relational and attachment theories as well as milieu therapeutic principles.

The educational aim is to offer each child the opportunity for optimal physical and mental well-being, so that they can thrive and develop through their own potential. The internal physical and mental environment of the living units is arranged in such a way that the children can experience a professional "home environment" with care and services tailored to each child's needs and developmental potential.

The key words in the work will be dialogue, mutual human respect, and conflict resolution. Here there will be adults who can be trusted, adults who are present both physically and mentally, and who have time to talk, listen, and have fun.

We expect

The employee, in collaboration with management and the other staff, contributes to ensuring the implementation and coordination of the daily tasks for the living unit's function. The employee must be prepared to collaborate both with management, other employees in the house, and external partners.

Furthermore, the employee must contribute to ensuring optimal activity offerings for the children and young people living in the care unit and be able to create security and care. We expect that you have a relevant professional background and experience from working with children and young people, are creative, loyal, and trustworthy, as well as being prepared for flexible working hours, have the courage and skills for conflict management and problem-solving, and are passionate about the cause. We would also like you to be bilingual in Danish and Greenlandic, but this is not a requirement.

We offer to participate in a creative and professionally developing environment, which provides the opportunity to influence the workplace culture. We offer a professionally challenging job and a constructive and developing collaboration with the other employees in both Mælkebøtten and the living units, where work is primarily done in teams. The work also includes professional joint meetings and supervision on topics related to everyday practice.

Salary is based on qualifications – either on an individual contract or according to the applicable collective agreement. The agreement with NPK will apply to educators. Housing may be offered for the position.

Further information about the position can be obtained by contacting the current department head for Ilasiaq, Henriette Pedersen, at phone +299 362120, mobile +299 268188, or email: henriette@mb.gl. The application, including exam papers, etc., should be sent to info@mb.gl so that we receive it by 07.02.2026 at the latest. Interviews will be conducted on an ongoing basis.
