A number of positions as authorized estate administrators at the Court in Greenland need to be filled.
This announcement is subject to the Danish Parliament's final adoption of the Ordinance on the entry into force for Greenland of the inheritance law, the law on spousal change, etc., and the law on the distribution of estates, etc. Since the authorizations thus depend on legislation that has not yet finally come into force, and since November 1, 2026, at this time is only an expected date of entry into force, the authorizations will not be granted if the legislation unexpectedly does not come into force or will only be granted when the legislation comes into force.
It is a prerequisite for authorization as an estate administrator that the applicant has a legal master's degree and practices legal activities. Authorization entails an obligation to handle the cases that the court refers for processing by the estate administrator in accordance with the Spousal Property Act.
The authorization, which is personal and non-transferable, is granted for a period of 10 years. The authorization can be extended for a new period of 10 years upon application without re-advertisement of the position.
The decisive consideration when appointing a licensed estate administrator is the applicant's qualifications. In this context, emphasis is placed on whether the applicant has experience with estate administration, particularly whether the applicant has experience with spousal estates, whether the applicant has undergone or intends to undergo further education in spousal estate law, and whether the applicant has demonstrated skill and commitment in their previous work. The decision is made based on a comprehensive assessment of the applicants, which means that other factors beyond those mentioned may also be taken into account in the decision.
When the application deadline has passed, the presiding judge at the Court in Greenland obtains consent from the nominated applicants to gather information, and then obtains a statement from the Bar Council, the Civil Administration, as well as information from the Criminal Register.
When the statements and information have been gathered, the presiding judge at the court in Greenland sends the applications along with their recommendations and attachments to the presiding district judge at the Greenland High Court, who forwards the applications with their recommendations to the Civil Administration. The Civil Administration conducts a hearing of the applicants regarding the recommendations and information before making a decision in the case.
Applications should be addressed to the Civil Administration and sent to the Court in Greenland, preferably via secure email at rig@domstol.gl.
Questions regarding the authorization or application process can be directed to Judge Kirsten Hee Larsen.
Application deadline
The deadline for receiving applications is July 31, 2026.
