We are seeking a legal case handler to assist the ombudsman in monitoring whether the self-government authorities and the Greenlandic municipalities comply with applicable law. You will interact with citizens and authorities, handle complaints, and participate in inspections. Qualifications include a law degree and an interest in public law.
We are looking for a legal case handler (trainee or specialist consultant) to start on October 1, 2026, or by further agreement.
As a caseworker, you will assist the ombudsman in checking whether the self-government authorities and the Greenlandic municipalities comply with applicable law.
On a daily basis, this means that you have a lot of contact with citizens and authorities across Greenland. This can occur through guidance or by handling complaints.
You can also have the opportunity to assist the ombudsman in conducting investigations of cases based on complaints or issues mentioned in the media.
The case processing you are working with may lead to pronounced criticism of the authorities, or they may receive a recommendation to reconsider decisions or practices in accordance with the ombudsman's remarks in the case.
As a caseworker, you will have ample opportunity to plan your work and handle case processing from start to finish in collaboration with the court manager and other legal caseworkers.
Together with colleagues and management, you will participate in regular inspections of institutions and visits to municipalities. Therefore, you should expect that there may be a considerable amount of travel activity associated with the work as a legal caseworker.
Qualifications for the job
It is expected that you as an applicant:
· Has an education as a Master of Laws with good theoretical knowledge, as well as being able to express yourself well in writing.
· Has a special interest in public law and a desire to delve into administrative law.
· Able to understand complex and diverse legal issues.
· Is empathetic and that you are able to meet citizens in personal conversation.
· Is responsible and can both collaborate with colleagues and work independently on your own tasks.
· Has relevant experience, e.g. from central administration, the courts, municipalities, or the legal profession. Recent graduates will also be considered.
How is the workplace?
The Ombudsman is appointed by the Inatsisartut to ensure that public administration under self-government and the municipalities adheres to good administrative practice and complies with applicable law.
The management consists of the ombudsman, the head of the court, and the chief interpreter. In addition, we have 6 caseworkers, one interpreter, and one secretary.

The embassy is located in the Herrnhuthuset in Nuuk, which is one of the oldest buildings in Greenland. The building is situated in a protected area by the coast and has a good view.

The working hours are 40 hours per week. We usually do not have overtime. We have flexible hours and flexible conditions.
We provide housing for staff, for which payment is made according to applicable rules. We cover your relocation travel and moving expenses. After three years of employment, a severance travel and moving expenses are provided.
Salary and employment conditions
The salary and employment conditions are determined by an agreement between the presidency of the Inatsisartut and DJØF (the Collective Agreement for Membership). The agreement is largely based on the agreement between the Naalakkersuisut and the Academic Organizations (the Academic Agreement). Base salary and allowances correspond to the level of full-time civil servants, including special consultants in the Greenlandic central administration.
In addition, a seniority-based, pensionable ordering supplement is provided, which amounts to at least 3,758.82 kroner per month. Furthermore, there is the possibility to negotiate supplements based on qualifications. Finally, you will be covered by the rules regarding, among other things, retention supplements and vacation in the Academic Agreement.
Possibility of leave from another employment
Civil servants in the state and employees under a number of AC agreements are entitled to unpaid leave in connection with employment under the Government of Greenland. The provisions on unpaid leave also include your potential spouse or partner.
Please also note that the Ministry of the Interior in Denmark has urged municipalities and regions to show willingness to accommodate applications for unpaid leave in connection with employment under the Government of Greenland.
If you are already employed by the Government of Greenland or the municipalities, you will retain your accrued seniority when employed with us.
