Deputy Manager

Angerlarsimaffik Isikkivik is seeking a deputy manager to oversee daily operations in collaboration with the management team. The position requires experience with foster children and leadership. The workplace is in Sisimiut, Greenland, and the working hours are 40 hours per week. The application deadline is May 8, 2026.

Isikkivik:

Isikkivik is located in Sisimiut, Greenland. It falls under the Department of Social Affairs, Family and Prevention, and Isikkivik receives children and young people aged 13-18 who have experienced neglect, with the possibility of aftercare until they are 23 years old. The placed children have had a childhood marked by neglect and come from all over Greenland.

The pedagogy at Isikkivik is based on a cognitive, resource-oriented, and appreciative approach in a structured environment. We emphasize that they have a stable everyday life with schooling or work training, leisure interests, and a social life outside the institution. During weekends and holidays, we try to offer the children/residents good experiences in nature in the form of cabin trips, hunting, skiing trips, and longer colony stays, as well as participating in various events in the city.

We have a secured department for surrogate detainees/held and the chairman decided on children and young people aged 12-15 years.

About the position:

You must be ready to take on the following functions:

  • Manage the daily operations in collaboration with the rest of the management team.
  • Ensure that the department heads prepare duty schedules on time.
  • Ensure that the financial framework of the residential institution is adhered to.
  • Ensure that the residential institution works according to the professional objectives.
  • Ensure that work in the residential institution is conducted in accordance with the established structures and frameworks in collaboration with the department heads and the principal.
  • Ensure that supervision is provided for the employees in the department and in the house as a whole.
  • Coordinator for the development of status descriptions, development plans, and notifications in the departments.
  • Manage the interdisciplinary collaboration in close cooperation with the other management.
  • In collaboration with the department heads, delegate the primary cooperation with parents and municipalities.
  • Plan the admissions and discharges of new residents.
  • Receive and introduce new employees.
  • Have insight for the youth age group 13-18 years.
  • Together with the principal, they carry out the administrative tasks.

  • That you are a trained educator or similar.
  • Has management experience and preferably with further education in management.
  • That you have experience working with placed children in difficult circumstances.
  • That you have a talent for leadership and are visible as a professional.
  • That you are visionary on behalf of your field.
  • That you have a desire to continuously educate yourself and keep up with the development of the field.
  • That you have a driver's license but it is not required.
  • Is willing to collaborate with employees in large groups.

Housing

An unfurnished staff housing can be assigned for the position according to the applicable rules at any time. Housing cannot be assigned to individuals who already have staff housing or another property owned by the municipality or the Government of Greenland. Rent and deposit are paid according to the applicable rules for the assigned housing. The staff housing is linked to the employment relationship and must be vacated upon termination of the employment relationship.

Rent and housing standards may vary depending on the age of the property, ownership conditions, etc. There may be a waiting period for the allocation of permanent staff housing, which is why temporary accommodation may occur, including in smaller co-housing communities or hotel apartments, for which taxation applies. It is not possible to keep larger pets such as dogs or cats in staff or temporary housing.
