Avannaata Kommunia in Upernavik is seeking 1 Caseworker for Children and Youth, and families in the family department for immediate employment or by further agreement. You will join a team with other caseworkers in the children and youth, family area, and public assistance areas in the social departments. The immediate supervisor for the caseworker is the Head of the Family Department.
Responsibilities include active supervision of children's living conditions in the municipality and handling notifications where help may be needed. You will receive inquiries, conduct interviews, and provide counseling related to children, youth, and their families. Assess assistance measures in the children's area according to current legislation, including the allocation of assistance measures. Supervise and manage cases of children placed in residential institutions or boarding schools outside the municipality, maintaining contact with parents and other relatives of placed children. Prepare recommendations for team meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, and applications to the Social Committee, handling cases according to decisions made in interdisciplinary collaboration meetings and by the Social Committee. Act as a sparring partner for employees in village branches regarding questions in the children and youth, and family area. Substitute for other employees in the children and youth, and family area as needed in the department. Participate in the local social duty roster and perform ad hoc tasks.
Qualifications include a social work degree, willingness to take professional courses and relevant further education, experience in case management in the children's area, good collaboration skills with colleagues and management, ability to adhere to organizational and management directives as a caseworker in the Social Administration, experience establishing good cooperation with external partners in team meetings or interdisciplinary or cross-sectoral meetings, exemplary client contact and communication skills, psychological resilience, conflict management skills, systematic, reliable, loyal, responsible, stable, and meticulous.
The short-term goal of the position is to contribute to better quality case management, including investigations and selection of appropriate assistance measures in the children and youth, and family area. The long-term goal is to contribute to the reduction of severe cases of child and youth neglect, psychological and physical violence, including sexual abuse, and to strengthen parental abilities.
Salary and employment conditions will be according to the current agreement with the relevant negotiating professional organization. No staff housing can be provided for the position.
