Responsibilities include approval and case management of foster families, counseling and supervision, as well as collaboration with the authority department. The position is full-time with 40 weekly working hours.
The Municipality of Sermersooq is seeking 2 skilled and dedicated Foster Family Consultants, with a degree in social work or a consultant in social work, to start as soon as possible by agreement.
The primary tasks of the foster family consultant are; recommendations for the approval of foster families, case management for foster families, social support and counseling for foster families, as well as ensuring that the work is conducted in accordance with applicable legislation. The immediate supervisor will be the department head of the Foster Family Team in the Administration for Children and Families. There are 3 standardized foster family consultant positions in Nuuk.
In the Municipality of Sermersooq, in the Administration for Children and Families – the foster family team, in addition to the department head, there is also a team leader for foster family consultants.
The position is a full-time position with 40 weekly working hours from Monday to Friday and reports to the Department Head of the Foster Family Team in the Department for Children and Family Treatment.
The content of the position:
We are looking for a – preferably experienced – foster family consultant to join the foster family team and handle a number of tasks including:
Actively seeking foster families in Nuuk and the settlements
All case processing related to the approval of foster families.
All case processing related to foster families, including reporting of foster care allowances and similar matters.
Course/upskilling, guidance and counseling of foster families, both social and pedagogical.
Supervision of foster families
In collaboration with the authority department to ensure that children and young people are placed in the right places.
In collaboration with the authority department, work on custody cases.
Actively participate in the development of the foster care sector.
Ad hoc tasks regarding children in foster care
The tasks are carried out in close collaboration with other employees in the foster family team in the Municipality of Sermersooq, as well as the authority department in the form of caseworkers for children and families.

Is educated as a social worker, or Advisor in Social Work
Is good at reading and interpreting the legislation
Has good written and verbal communication skills
Has the desire and ability to collaborate with relevant parties with foster care as the focal point.

Criminal and Child Certificate:
The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police and the criminal record from the Police.
The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the Police.
Salary and employment conditions:
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland, in accordance with the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.
The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
