Avannaata Municipality, Family Center Ilulissat is looking for a family counselor who is passionate about working with family cases, with employment starting on May 15, 2026, or another date by agreement.
You will be part of a team with other family therapists, family counselors, social workers, and psychologists throughout the municipality, based at the Family Center Ilulissat, where the Department Head will be your immediate supervisor.
Work and areas of responsibility will include:
·Performs the tasks agreed upon by family therapists or the leading psychologist in the child sector regarding the respective children's and families' action plans and recommendations from the interdisciplinary collaboration group.
Responsible for ensuring that pedagogical and practical guidance and support to families is provided in a qualified manner, with respect for the families' freedom and independence, and in accordance with the municipality's objectives and intentions in the area based on the action plan.
Must be able to act on their knowledge of each family's situation and needs and to pass on information and observations about the family to the team leader or the relevant caseworker in the child welfare area.
·Shall contribute to the general development and improvement of quality in the family counseling area as well as other service areas related to support measures in the child sector.
Is jointly responsible for creating good dialogue and collaboration regarding the vulnerable families that the family counselor assists, as well as their relatives and other relevant employees in the child welfare area.
·Participates in meetings (including supervision meetings) with other family counselors and family therapists serving the same town/village and is active in giving and receiving feedback related to various general issues in this area, including topics that can improve the physical and mental work environment.
·Prepares regular monthly notes on their work efforts for family therapists and informs the lead psychologist or relevant caseworker in the child welfare area of all their observations and concerns, as well as any discrepancies related to the work.
Ensures to improve their qualifications through the courses and other educational offerings available in the child care sector.

Experience with social work in a municipal organization, social work with children, young people, and families in other contexts.
·Engaged in other people and social work, flexible and positive attitude, independent and good collaboration skills, good ability to gain an overview and to plan, can take care of oneself and others, good humor and creativity.

Criminal record and child certificate
This position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin once the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and
child certificate.
We would therefore like to point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police, as well as the criminal record from the Police.
The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.
Salary and employment conditions
Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland and the negotiating organization.
No staff housing is provided.
