School Social Worker

Are you interested in working with children in distress? Then you might be our new School Social Worker at Atuarfik Edvard Kruse, Uummannaq.

The position should be seen as a strengthening of the early and preventive efforts aimed at primary school students with concerning well-being and development.

The school social worker must act as an intermediary for the Department of Family and, in collaboration with the school, ensure that relevant support for students with social or behavioral difficulties is provided.

Work tasks will include conversations with students referred by the school. Supportive functions for students who have a difficult start to the school day. Participation in meetings with the social administration regarding child cases, as well as other meeting activities where the school social worker can contribute with their professional expertise. Advisory conversations with parents and teachers.

Atuarfik Edvard Kruse is a primary school with about 195 students distributed across grades 1-10 and 5 special classes. The school has 29 teachers, a vice principal, and a principal.

Commencement on August 1, 2026, or by agreement.

It is expected that you as an applicant

• Is educated as a social worker or similar.
• Has extensive experience with social counseling and case management work and functions. General knowledge of the Inatsisartut Act on support for children, the school sector, and/or other social professional experiences.
• Can work in a team, good collaboration skills, can involve others.
• Is good at communicating and guiding.
• Able to establish good relationships with children and young people.
• Is someone who can work independently, who is good at structuring, coordinating, planning, and following up on tasks.
• Bilingual applicants will be preferred (Greenlandic/Danish)

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Government of Greenland or another negotiating organization.

Child and criminal record:

This position is subject to the law on the obligation to obtain a child certificate and a criminal record, which is why the hiring authority will obtain this with the applicant's approval.
