Social Worker/Case Handler for the Prison Service in Freedom, in Aasiaat

The Correctional Service in Greenland offers an exciting position as a social worker/caseworker in Aasiaat. The work is varied, challenging, and developmental. You will be part of a team of a total of 14 care workers employed across the country. The work is very independent, with long-distance management from Nuuk. In Aasiaat, you will be a colleague with the uniformed officers in the institution and have close collaboration with the Correctional Service in Freedom in Ilulissat.

Your immediate supervisor is the Head of Resocialization based in Nuuk.

Concrete areas of responsibility

As a social worker/caseworker in the Prison Service in Aasiaat, your daily tasks will include concrete case processing of the inmates' cases, organizing parole releases, supervising parolees and forensic psychiatric clients, as well as those sentenced to community service.

In addition, it is an essential task to maintain contact with external partners, such as municipalities, the healthcare system, self-government, and similar entities.

You are expected to contribute to the development of the case processing area in close collaboration with other colleagues in the Prison and Probation Service.

Business trips can be made to the coast and to the settlements as needed.

You have experience with case management and preferably have a background as a social worker or similar. You are good at getting an overview and have strong skills in organizing and planning tasks. You find it exciting to motivate other people. You enjoy having many tasks and can see opportunities and potential in everyone. You are calm and accommodating towards others. You speak both Danish and Greenlandic.

Who are we

The Institution for Convicted Persons in Aasiaat has space for 15 inmates. These include both convicted individuals and those sentenced to preventive detention. The correctional service employs approximately 140 permanent staff members in total, in addition to about 25 individuals on hourly contracts. The Correctional Service in Freedom has 6 regional offices nationwide, located in Sisimiut, Nuuk, Tasiilaq, Qaqortoq, Aasiaat, and Ilulissat.

The Correctional Service has two main tasks.

We must ensure the necessary control and security regarding the enforcement of judgments.

We must support and motivate the citizens we are in contact with to live a crime-free life.

The prison service is also an educational institution, as we train prison officers ourselves.

Salary and employment conditions

You are employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and Atorfillit Kattuffiat for social workers and caseworkers. The salary is determined based on seniority and is expected to be between approximately 23,800 – 27,000 DKK per month excluding any additional allowances, depending on whether you are a trained social worker or caseworker.

The average working time is 40 hours per week.

The place of employment is the Correctional Service in Aasiaat Institution. The area of employment is the Correctional Service in Greenland.

Vacation is granted according to the applicable rules at any given time. Unfurnished staff housing may be provided, for which payment is made according to the applicable rules.
