The Youth Culture House in Paamiut is seeking an employee to develop the space and create cultural activities for young people. You will be the house's daily contact and responsible for workshops, materials, and events. We expect you to be creative, development-oriented, and have experience with youth. Flexibility and pedagogical tools are necessary.

The Youth Culture House in Paamiut is a newly established youth culture house, and we are looking for an employee who will help develop the place. The music school is also located under the youth culture house.

The Youth Culture House in Paamiut accommodates the youth of Paamiut aged 14 and older during the day and focuses on creating a variety of cultural activities in collaboration with the young people. Most activities in the Youth Culture House are based on the initiative and energy of the youth, and they can receive help to turn their ideas and projects into reality. In the evening, there is an opportunity for adult offerings from 18 years and up, where there is a chance to be creative on-site with plenty of equipment.

You will be the daily contact for the young users of the house, so it is essential that you have the pedagogical tools in order and, not least, a desire to work with young people. You will largely represent the house externally.

The tasks are very diverse and no two days are exactly the same – therefore, you need to be adaptable and open.

In Paamiut, there are various close partners and institutions such as: Atuarfik Tuiisaq, the leisure club club Kalaaleq, the community house Taqqissuut, the sports hall, the Multiværkstedet, and the Paamiut Museum.

You will report to the Department Head for Leisure Offers in Paamiut.

You will be responsible for:

  • Operation of the workshops; creative sewing and painting workshop and other workshops
  • Purchase of materials
  • Ensure that there is respect, collaboration, and trust among the users.
  • Ensure ongoing events in the house for the users.
  • Secure exhibitions and performances by the youth for other citizens in Paamiut.

We expect that you:

  • Is a driving force for both the institution, the users, and the other employees.
  • Is development-oriented and can see opportunities in the youth's resources and competencies.
  • Is creative and action-oriented
  • Is spacious and respectful
  • Can relate to the young people on their level and focus on building the house together with them.
  • Is organized to manage and lead workshops and finances.
  • Being bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage, but not a requirement.

We expect that you have relevant education, preferably as a teacher or social educator, and experience from similar positions where you have worked with children and young people. It is essential that you are welcoming towards the house's users and take responsibility for your work tasks and independent projects. Flexibility is a necessity, as the house has varying opening hours. You should expect a minimum of one working day per week with evening work from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, as well as work approximately 5 weekends a year.

Since we have many creative, musical, and outgoing activities as well as various trips in the mountains, skiing, and other outdoor-based activities, it is essential that it is something you can see yourself in.

To ensure the development of the Youth Culture House and collaboration with the young people, decisions regarding relevant further education can be made in cooperation with the leader.

Criminal and child certificate:

The position is covered by the law on the obligation to obtain criminal and child certificates. According to the law, employment can only begin when the municipality has received satisfactory criminal and child certificates. We must therefore point out that the start date can only be agreed upon once the municipality has received the child certificate from the National Police as well as the criminal record from the Police.

The child certificate is obtained by the municipality with the consent of the individual, while the criminal record is obtained by the individual from the police.

Salary and employment conditions:

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland, according to the agreement/collective agreement in force at the time of appointment between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organization.

The employment will be subject to a 3-month probation period.
